What a wonderful experience and worth every dollar paid ! This is a very well organised and relaxing 3 hr boat ride . It was very easy to book the tickets online. Once you get to the wharf, go to the tkt counter and give your name, and they issue you a physical tkt. It's all very quick and even with the large crowd , we didn't have to wait very long to board.
STAFF - From start to finish all the staff are cheerful and make you feel welcome. The skipper Pete (sorry if I got the name wrong) was entertaining and had lots of interesting information to share .The ladies on board taking care of our tea and lunch were equally wonderful.
MEALS - With morning tea, got served the best Anzac biscuit I've ever eaten. Was later served a very hearty Ploughman's lunch. As we asked for vegetarian , the ham was replaced with a wonderful bean salad. Tea/coffee is again served post lunch. You definitely won't go hungry on this trip !
LOCATION - Took the train from Epping station , it's a 40min ride to Hawkesbury station. The Riverboat postman wharf is an easy 2 min walk from the train station. It must be a very popular ride, because we came here on a wednesday and both boats were absolutely full , so buying tickets in advance is better.
ON BOARD - There are 2 very clean toilets. The deck on top gives you some great views. Took my parents (80+) and they had no problems , found it fairly easy to get on and off the boat.
Don't forget to keep an eye out for the swarms of jellyfish along the way. Overall, a wonderful day , and highly...

From start to finish, The Riverboat Postman exceeded expectations. Communication before the trip was excellent—when our train was delayed, we left a message and were promptly called back with reassurance that they’d wait for us. That level of care set the tone for the whole experience.
I’d imagined a small tug with a dozen passengers, but instead found myself aboard a spacious vessel with around 200 fellow cruisers, all enjoying the stunning scenery and the novelty of real mail deliveries to remote river-access-only communities. Yes, they actually deliver and pick up mail—and maybe a cheeky bottle or two!
The captain’s commentary was a highlight: dry Aussie wit, local stories, and just enough tall tales to keep us guessing. It added real character to the cruise and gave us a deeper appreciation of the river’s history.
Food was fantastic. We were welcomed aboard with tea or coffee and homemade ANZAC biscuits (Nan’s recipe, apparently). Lunch was a generous ploughman’s spread: beef, ham, cheese, salad, and a fresh bread roll. Simple, hearty, and delicious.
The crew were outstanding—genuinely friendly, polite, and clearly proud of what they do. Service came with a smile and a sense of fun that made the whole experience feel personal.
If you’re looking for a relaxing, scenic day out with a touch of Aussie charm and a dash of history, this is it. The Riverboat Postman is more than just a cruise—it’s a slice of living tradition, and one I’d happily recommend to anyone...
Read moreThe scenery is fantastic and worth it to see the Hawkesbury from a different perspective - hence the one star. Don't expect the Ploughman's lunch to be anything much - it is pre packaged cheese slices and meat slices with a Ciabatta roll and a couple of slices of tomato and cucumber - the pictures on the website are not accurate. Additionally, I would not recommend relying on the lunch if you are gluten free - instead of the Ciabatta roll I was provided with 3 rice crackers - the thin ones. I went home hungry. The coffee is similar to what you would receive on a aircraft - so not a great quality as is the tea. The morning tea consists of this coffee or tea and an Anzac biscuit - again, if you are gluten free - you will go hungry as I did. They don't have any non caffeine hot drink options. The commentary was also inaudible to my group - so eventually we ignored it. Such a pity, we could have learnt so much. What we did hear was about colonial Australian occupation of the Hawkesbury - and there is a rich history of Aboriginal occupation and stories to share. a missed opportunity. Would definitely not recommend - grab a water taxi, pack a picnic lunch and go for a ride around and you would get a...
