This is the ferry company that you use to visit Maria Island from the Triabunna Esplanade. Best to reserve tickets online in advance beforehand to ensure desired departure times. Seems there are 4 departures and returns daily, tickets are sold with specific journey times both ways.

You need to check in at the Visitor Centre building next to the Jetty 30 minutes before departure time. In addition to the Encounter ferry ticket, you also have to pay a National Park entry fee, which is covered by the National Park Pass if you have already purchased. Just show at the Visitor Centre when they provide your ferry boarding tickets.

The ferry is large and includes indoor and outdoor seating. Journey time is around half an hour both ways. They sell food and drinks onboard if needed. Prices are reasonable for the service provided. They offer a few more services such as bike rentals if you fancy cycling around Maria Island instead of walking. Again, best to reserve in advance to ensure...

Our trip to Maria Island was disappointing. The staff and services were great but the island is not so spectacular or very different from anything else you can see on the east coast. It's a bit expensive for what you will discover on a day trip. Moreover we rented the bikes and it was not worth it. A lot of tracks are far away and you'll have to choose which one you would truly like to do during your day trip to not miss it. And even then, some interesting tracks are sandy (or hilly) : and not suitable for biking. In my opinion, you will not see so much more if you're renting a bike. Maybe you will go further and have a nice time biking on the coastline but I don't think it's worth it. If you're coming for the wildlife, you can spot some wombats around Darlington, so, one more time, not worth to...

Excellent excellent staff on the ferry. I got sea sick and vomited, an absolutely unpleasant and embarrassing thing to happen in public. The staff were so kind and supportive. One woman helped me through the ride with kindness and staying by my side, two other male staff got me water, something to wipe my face and cleaned away my mess, all the while being genuinely kind to me. Words can't express my gratitude to these people. They really were there for me, a complete stranger. Thank you so much for your kindness and genuine support. I went on to enjoy my visit to the island the return trip was much smoother. We even joked about it on the way back but they still kept a kind eye on me. I'd like to say this was exceptional customer service, which is was, but these people were...

An hour drive from Hobart and 40 mins ferry and we can go from one peice of heaven to the other . Highly recommended hiring bikes or taking your own bikes to go around the island . Toilets are super clean , and if you are camping , there are campground available with functioning kitchen . On a beautiful sunny day , the water is amazing for a swim . Plenty wombats , paddy melons and cape barren goose during our visit - but remember don’t go too close to them . Things to see : Painted cliff , fossil cliff are naturally formed with patterns . Haunted bay - if you staying over night you can hear the fairy penguins calling each other . Hence the name . We didn’t use the facilities there , but a few options available for stays . Must visit !

Saw some very cute wombats on Maria island, didn’t have to deliberately search for them, there’s quite many! Very worth visiting, 4hrs is enough to visit painted cliff and the other side. Super strong wind (and therefore cold) near the cliff so make sure you have wind breaker. Better to wear shoes as you’ll be walking the whole time. No restaurant, food or water on Maria island so make sure you bring everything you need. Can have breakfast at Maria spirit cafe before boarding the ferry (1min drive away), they have nice breakfast and coffee. Absolutely recommended to visit! Ferry to Maria island is not available everyday so make sure to plan before visiting!
