1 Add to favorites In 1999 the major avalanche disaster had especially serious consequences for Galtür. As a result, extensive avalanche protection, in keeping with the most recent, technical and state-of-the-art innovations, was installed. A central element of the 234 metre long and 19 metre high protective wall is the Galtür Alpinarium. The combination of protective wall and exhibition room makes the architecture of the Alpinarium unique in the entire world.

The modern and artistic design of the building interior and the exterior architecture, matched to the natural surroundings, are indeed impressive. Inside the building is a room dedicated to the memory of those who perished on 23 February, 1999.

The Alpine Exhibition in Tyrol takes you to the world of the mountains, while you can train on the indoor climbing wall without danger of falling and the Internet lounge offers you access to the World Wide Web even during your holiday. In addition, a café with sun terrace and seminar rooms also...

Ein Museum nur über eine tragische Katatstrophe, die diesem Ort in mehr als einer Weise geschadet hat? Nun, es ist weit mehr. Es ist de facto auch ein Heimatmuseum über Galtür, ein Museum über das Leben in alpiner Lage (drum heißts ja auch Alpinarium) und es ist auch für Kinder interessant. Sowohl der Informationsfilm im Kinosaal über das Unglück ist gut und nicht sensationheischend (es gibt auch "Sekunden vor dem Unglück" auf Youtube, ist auch ok, aber schon der Titel... ) als auch die Sonderausstellung über den Arzt und Funkamateur Dr. Köck und das dreidimensionale Spiegellabyrinth ist toll. Also sowohl was für kurz durchgehen als auch länger drin verbringen. Die restlichen Videos kann man sich allerdings schenken, die gehen grad mal eine Minute in Endlosschleife. Sicher gut, da keine langen Filme zu zeigen, das mag keiner, aber ganz so kurz ist auch nix. Was ungeschickt ist, ist die Kletterwand, wenn man ins Café geht. Da auch im Hotel eine (kleinere) war, sind die Kinder sofort drauf losgestürzt und begeistert rein. Dann ging das Geschrei los, daß man da nicht einfach rein darf, sondern erst vor zum Café muß und zahlen. Da steht irgendwo auch ein Hinweisschild; dummerweise sieht man das aber erst, wenn die Kinder längst in die Kletterwand gehüpft sind. Also muß man sie erst wieder raus kriegen, was gar nicht so einfach ist, weil es im Gegensatz zu normalen Kletterwänden nicht hoch, sondern runter geht (eigentlich genial!). Und dann wollten sie nicht mehr rein. Verschenkte Chance. Sollte gleich am Eingang da stehen, daß man...

Galtur is a small village known for beautiful surroundings and a perfect place for skiing and snowboarding. They may not have many km of slopes (around 40-50km) but the quality is impressive and they have some off trail paths, which is amazing. On the other hand if you would like to get to know something about the place, its history, the people and the feeling of the place, you should go to Alpinarium. Small but interesting. It is a place to spend 1-2 h, relax and build general...
