Definitely recommend. The castle is easily accessible (and free of charge), the hike fairly easy with a few patches that are on the medium side for people who never hike. The hike to the castle takes around half the time the map/signs say (which might reflect expected walking time with kids). I found that's true for all hikes here. The castle remains are preserved well enough to be exciting. Many vista points with an amazing view of the region, plus a higher tower that's accessable from which the view is even better. A small section of the castle is closed for reconstruction, however I enjoyed seeing work being done on this historical sight. Plenty of space for picnics and resting as well. The Highline is very close to this castle, so I recommend doing it all together.
August 2022: The higher situated Fort Schlosskopf is closed for construction, so are the hiking trails leading up there. So instead of continuing further up I recommend taking the Highline to the other side to visit Fort Claudia (not as big or exciting as Ehrenberg) and from there hike back down to the parking lot. The whole roundtrip can be done in less...
Read moreHi y’all,
We visited the Ehrenburg Castle in Austria. It’s just stunning. That’s what you usually see in movies. This one should definitely be checked out.
Doesn’t matter with the family, partner or even alone. The trip is at least a half day trip without kids.
Cool thing about it is that the attractions itself are for free. You only have to pay for the transport to the attractions. Of course they’re easy to use and for anybody usable.
If you decide to save the money and make it even more memorable, just go up the hill to Claudia Fort, take then the highline, checkout the Ehrenburg, hike up to Schlosskopf and then either use the transportations to go down or just hike again. It’s all accessible on food.
You can buy the tickets anywhere. No need to buy them I advance. Just decide what you wanna do once you’ve reached the point since you can pay right before the transportation.
Ok, that’s it. Check it out yourself !

Read moreAwesome place to visit if you're into midevil places. It was started in 1296 and was added on over 300 years. The hike up was steep but short. If you're in shape, you can do it in 30 minutes. We hiked with 3 kids, youngest being 10, and made it in 45 minutes. They have a mountain lift you can ride up and down if you don't want to hike. There are 3 castles at the top of the mountains. 2 on one mountain and one on another that you can take the sky bridge to. The sky bridge is the longest in the world and was inducted into the genius world book of record in 2014. If heights are not your thing, you can walk down and back up the other mountain. Plan at minimum 2 hours to be there but 3 to 4 is more enjoyable. A lot of history in one place. Check prices on the website to see how you would like to go about it. They have a gift...
