My daughter wanted to show me how brave she is by crossing this really high and swaying foot bridge. I said "why not? After all I'm braver than you!". OMG! It's freighting and spans over the B179 (hence the name). To top it off, it was raining and blowing a gale at freezing temperatures. You can see the traffic below through the grid floor and it sways from left to right through the wind and movement of people (probably doing it on purpose to scare the rest). All I could think about was getting back to where I started. My daughter had a great time watching the expression on my face (she didn't even bat an eye lid). I really recommend having a go at crossing the bridge even if it's only a few yards. The bridge is really well built and the structure feels safe and solid. If you have vertigo, then you can still enjoy a safe walk around the ruins instead. A brilliant day out especially at night when the ruins are all lit up (the kids will love it). Our only problem was finding somewhere after to warm up and have a bite to eat. The restaurant, in the carpark, was fully booked with a queue of at least 1 hour. I recommend booking a table ahead of time but this could spoil the time spent up on thd ruins which can easily take up 2 hours to absorb everything. In the end, we ended up in Füssen which was also nearly booked out. I guess everyone is enjoying the long awaited freedom of movement. Parking (plenty) costs 5€ all day (the only option) and the lavatory cost 1€ with 70¢ credit for purchases in the shop. The lift from the carpark to the top costs 7€ per person. We walked it to the top which took only 15 minutes and saved us 35€. If you have a buggy I would recommend taking the lift as the path made of is rough shingle. My daughter got a stitch on the way down and I was able to win back honour by giving her a piggy back all the way down to the car park. Take refreshments with you as the only shops are in the carpark. Maybe you can buy drinks at the top but these would be at the ticket stand which is full of people getting into the ruins. Would I do it again? Definitely! Maybe when the weather warms up a little first. I also need to show my daughter that my expression that day was cold related 😉. I'd love to read some honest comments from other Mums and Dads that went across the suspension bridge with their little brave hearts 😁.

Highline179 Austria is a stunning sky walk experience that offers visitors an unforgettable view of the Alps. Located in the Tyrol region of Austria, the Highline179 is a suspended pedestrian bridge that stretches over an impressive 700-meters of breathtakingly beautiful mountain scenery. The bridge itself is extremely well-constructed, offering a safe and secure experience. It is made of a combination of steel and reinforced concrete, with a wooden walkway that is wide enough to accommodate up to 10 people at once. And the area is surrounded by breathtaking views, including the iconic peaks of the Karwendel Mountains and the beautiful alpine lakes. The experience itself is a truly unique one, as visitors are able to take in the stunning views of the Alps from the bridge’s elevated perspective. The journey along the bridge will take visitors to a viewing platform at the very end of the bridge, offering a remarkable view of the surrounding landscape. Overall, Highline179 Austria is an amazing experience that is sure to be remembered by anyone who visits. It offers a unique perspective of the Alps, along with a safe and secure bridge that is sure to make the journey an enjoyable one. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a truly memorable experience in the Alps.

Summary: beautiful views, very wobbly, thrilling, worth the price. Details: 🅿️ A very large parking area with enough space for hundreds of cars, it gets quite busy though so you may not be able to park close to the entrance. 🎟️ You buy tickets inside the tourist area, and the workers speak great English! Tickets are ~€15 for access to the lift up, the bridge and the first castle ruins. Great price for all that’s included. 🚾 toilets are located next to the lift that takes you up, and they cost €1 to use. They’re spacious and well kept though. 🛗 the lift up is robust and feels very sturdy with excellent views on the ascent. There are hand rails to hold onto for stability. 🏰 the ruins are up very steep hills and are not accessible to those with mobility issues, but they are great to walk around. Interesting boards in English describe their history. 🌁 the bridge itself was an awesome experience. You can see through the bottom the whole way, and if you go on a windy day as I did, it really does wobble a lot. The views are immense but my partner was very scared with his fear of heights. You exit the same way, so you have to walk over it twice!

Breathtaking is an understatement for this amazing day activity in the foothills of the alps. The way to this place, the road, the views, the vegetation are a delight in themselves. It's pretty close to most Bavarian cities in Germany since its almost next to the border. The facilities are well maintained and there is ongoing construction of a cable car to schlossberg I guess. The trek to Fort claudia is pretty short and easy, same goes for the Ehrenberg ruins. The views from both these fort's are just amazing. The bridge is a marvel in itself. Hanging high up between the two hills with greenery all around and cars going directly under your feet on highway 179. The ticket costs 8 euros per person (parking charges are separate if you arrive by car) allows you to enter the bridge from one side, get out on the other side and re-enter from that side one more time. You can spend as much time as you want on the bridge. This might not be a good activity for people with height phobia. The trek to Schlossberg castle is pretty strenuous too.

Highline179 is an architectural wonder in Reutte, Austria, offering an unforgettable experience. Spanning 406 meters, it stands as one of the longest pedestrian suspension bridges globally, connecting Ehrenberg Castle Ruins to Fort Claudia, suspended at 114 meters above the ground. Walking this bridge promises an adrenaline rush and unparalleled panoramic views of mountains, valleys, and the charming town of Reutte. However, it's important to note that strollers or prams aren't permitted for safety reasons. This attraction is open 365 days a year, from 8 AM to 10 PM. Conveniently, there's ample parking available at the base. You have the option to hike up or purchase tickets from Ehrenberg Liner. One downside is that only cash payments are accepted, so be prepared. Highline179 seamlessly combines adventure and stunning vistas but remember, plan ahead if you're bringing young children and ensure you have cash on hand for ticket purchases.

Must see! I was staying in Garmisch for the week and had no idea this little gem was just 40kms away. A friend tipped me off about this place so based on the reviews and pictures, I decided to go. I was not disappointed. The bridge and fort were breathtaking, both literally and metaphorically speaking. The hike up to the bridge is not for the faint at heart, and if there is snow on the ground, I recommend wearing appropriate boots, because the walkway is a bit slick. I highly recommend this place. *for those staying in Garmisch, it's just a short, beautiful drive and there is no vignette required. There is plenty of parking in the tiny village located directly beneath the bridge. Once you're in the middle of the bridge, be prepared to have your breath taken away as you're 380 feet above the ground, and looking out over the landscape and the Alps, topped off by Ft. Claudia.
