My daughter wanted to show me how brave she is by crossing this really high and swaying foot bridge. I said "why not? After all I'm braver than you!". OMG! It's freighting and spans over the B179 (hence the name). To top it off, it was raining and blowing a gale at freezing temperatures. You can see the traffic below through the grid floor and it sways from left to right through the wind and movement of people (probably doing it on purpose to scare the rest). All I could think about was getting back to where I started. My daughter had a great time watching the expression on my face (she didn't even bat an eye lid). I really recommend having a go at crossing the bridge even if it's only a few yards. The bridge is really well built and the structure feels safe and solid. If you have vertigo, then you can still enjoy a safe walk around the ruins instead. A brilliant day out especially at night when the ruins are all lit up (the kids will love it).

Our only problem was finding somewhere after to warm up and have a bite to eat. The restaurant, in the carpark, was fully booked with a queue of at least 1 hour. I recommend booking a table ahead of time but this could spoil the time spent up on thd ruins which can easily take up 2 hours to absorb everything. In the end, we ended up in Füssen which was also nearly booked out. I guess everyone is enjoying the long awaited freedom of movement.

Parking (plenty) costs 5€ all day (the only option) and the lavatory cost 1€ with 70¢ credit for purchases in the shop. The lift from the carpark to the top costs 7€ per person. We walked it to the top which took only 15 minutes and saved us 35€. If you have a buggy I would recommend taking the lift as the path made of is rough shingle. My daughter got a stitch on the way down and I was able to win back honour by giving her a piggy back all the way down to the car park.

Take refreshments with you as the only shops are in the carpark. Maybe you can buy drinks at the top but these would be at the ticket stand which is full of people getting into the ruins.

Would I do it again? Definitely! Maybe when the weather warms up a little first. I also need to show my daughter that my expression that day was cold related 😉.

I'd love to read some honest comments from other Mums and Dads that went across the suspension bridge with their little...

The adventure starts at the parking lot, we parked next to some other cars that just arrived near the entrance. A guy on a step came shouting that everyone had to get back in their car and drive it to the backside of the parking lot and park there, which is just ridiculous. Parking is also not free here, it is €4 regardless of how long you will stay. The next hurdle was the ticket office (you also have the option of buying a ticket at a ticket machine, which is always full price), where we tried to get a reduced student ticket. We carried a valid student card and showed it to the lady, who just shook her head and forced us to buy full price tickets, no explanation given. We walked to the bridge, the path there is quite steep and boring, but better than paying for the lift (it doesn't take you to the top and you still have to climb the last part). The bridge itself is busy, we were early but there were already a lot of people. The biggest thing of note is that the bridge sways, moves and 'bounces' a lot. It was clear that people (especially elderly) were struggling a bit and had to hold on tightly to the railing. The floor of the bridge is a metal grate, so you can look down all the way. We visited both Fort Claudia and Ehrenberg. Fort Claudia is very small, but still quite interesting. Ehrenberg is bigger and more interesting to look at, but the information on the signs was very bland and boring compared to Fort Claudia. Overall still happy to have visited it, but I recommend to set your expectations...

Highline179 Austria is a stunning sky walk experience that offers visitors an unforgettable view of the Alps. Located in the Tyrol region of Austria, the Highline179 is a suspended pedestrian bridge that stretches over an impressive 700-meters of breathtakingly beautiful mountain scenery. The bridge itself is extremely well-constructed, offering a safe and secure experience. It is made of a combination of steel and reinforced concrete, with a wooden walkway that is wide enough to accommodate up to 10 people at once. And the area is surrounded by breathtaking views, including the iconic peaks of the Karwendel Mountains and the beautiful alpine lakes. The experience itself is a truly unique one, as visitors are able to take in the stunning views of the Alps from the bridge’s elevated perspective. The journey along the bridge will take visitors to a viewing platform at the very end of the bridge, offering a remarkable view of the surrounding landscape. Overall, Highline179 Austria is an amazing experience that is sure to be remembered by anyone who visits. It offers a unique perspective of the Alps, along with a safe and secure bridge that is sure to make the journey an enjoyable one. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a truly memorable experience in the Alps.
