"The Sound of Music" -Gazebo This gazebo was used in 1964 in a scene in the film "The Sound of Music", Trapp family. In the main roles: Julie Andrews and ", which described the fate of the Christopher Plummer. Director: Robert Wise. The scene was played here to the song: "Sixteen Going On At the end of filming the pavilion was presented to the city of Salzburg as a gift. The original scene of filming was in the park of Leopoldskron Palace. In 1991 the city council decided to restore it and to show it publicly in the Hellbrunn Palace Park.

Part of the sound of music tour. I believe you can go on your own, but it’s very out of the way. However, it is also in the same spot as the Von Trapp family’s home- which was awesome to see! It’s also where the scene is where they all fall off the boat in the lake in their “back yard” which is actually the front of a hotel! Awesome movie magic learned here. It’s surreal to see all of it, and I would probably go again just to experience it one more time!

It's all about the experience. April was our tour guide, and she was amazing. She had lots of energy and was full of stories. She interacted with us and took an interest in getting to know you. She had lots of fun stories about the movie, the real history, and little fun facts about things that occurred but were not planned.

I went to college in Salzburg ~20 years ago and went back to visit this summer (2025). So this was my second time visiting the "pavilion".

It's the gazebo from the American movie The Sound of Music, specifically appearing in the scene where the girl sings about being "16 going on 17" with a boy who turns out to be a literal Nazi. It's neat, I guess, especially if you're a fan of the movie. You're not allowed inside it; I was told on my first visit that they stopped allowing it because people kept falling through the glass trying to replicate the scene.

But now it's got this whole thing in it advertising the local professional football team, including that there's a few large tv monitors and a kitted out mannequin inside it. So it's practically impossible to get a photo of the gazebo itself without also getting the tacky ad stuff.

I'm not a huge fan of the movie, but it's still kinda...

The Sound of Music Pavillon - of course - a highlight for every Sound of Music Fan from around the world. Its a must to see - even its NOT the original. The original is simply build in the Fox-Studios in Los Angeles and this simply a Copy. But doesn't matter. Its a beautiful location. Right opposite in the Helbrunner Allee had been filmed some scenes of "I have confidence" (when Marie left the bus and walks to the door of the family Von Trap).

Well.. lets sing "I have Confidence" and "I am 16...
