On a seven day Celebrity Cruise the day at CocoCay was what I was looking forward to the most. Who wouldn’t want to go to a place called The Perfect Day at CocoCay? It was only my third cruise and my first to the eastern Caribbean. Each port that I’ve been to has had something special but CocoCay is about having fun and relaxing.
We got off the ship about 10:30. We wanted a 2.5 mile walk. I like that they have lots of large maps with “you are here” along all the paths. You can walk or take the tram around the island with stops at many of the beaches and attractions. They even have a tram that can take a wheelchair or electric scooter.
We did a lap around the lagoon just off the pier and then followed the map to South Beach which is at the northern side of the Cay. You walk through Buttonwood path which is a shady beautiful short path to get to South Beach.
You can get drinks or food at South Beach or really almost anywhere on the island. We stopped at the Snack Shack for a Spicy Grilled Chicken sandwich. While we enjoyed lots of food on the Island this was our favorite single thing we ate. Soda stations are also near any place that serves food. You can get a soda, Ice tea or water with ice and have a fixing bar for your burger or chicken sandwich.
A great part of CocoCay is that you can get a chair with an umbrella at any of the beaches. When we got off our ship there was the Equinox at the port and I thought it would feel busy on the island but it never was hard to find a chair on the beach or at a bar/snack bar.
Our group all met for lunch at Chill Grill. It’s a large open air pavilion with lots of tables inside and outside the pavilion. Drink/fixing bars are located around the pavilion. It was great as we could each have what we wanted. The selection isn’t as good as on the ship but more than enough for anyone. There are stations for salad, fruit, burger/hot dog, chicken, mexican and more.
We had drinks at The Wacky Seagull. It’s a small bar with high top tables and a nice place to get out of the sun. My wife and I had mocktails. Our friends had a Bahama Moma and a Tequila Sunrise. A bonus was that our favorite bartender from Apex was working there.
The island is less than a mile long and 480 yards wide. While we walked 2.5 miles for exercise it was doing a few loops around the lagoon and other parts of the Cay. I wish there was a running path. You can’t walk/run on the tram paths which is too bad. It would make for a great run or bike ride.
I wish Celebrity had a cruise with a two days and one night stay at CocoCay. How fun would it be to have music on the beach to dance...
