Pretty "sister" to caves of Han. Short film prior to tour (only in French & Dutch). However having visited Han on a previous occasion, I preferred this as our guide was very knowledgeable.
He performed the tour bi-lingually in English and Dutch (and was capable of other languages). The guide was a young student and was very capable. Be aware that the tour has a lot of steps and is not suitable if you are claustrophobic. Across the road, from the visitors centre, in the woods, is a small information centre, it's worth a quick look but the smell in there was not pleasant. Read moreWe had planned to visit the bigger and better known Han cave but the place was packed, there were queues and parking was a nightmare. So we kept driving, saw a sign for Grotte de Lorette and made a spontaneous change of plan.
Wonderful cave with lots of stalagtites, stalagmites and curtains, and lots of interesting history. The sound and light shows were great and best of all, it was a small group so we could explore and examine at our own pace.
Special mention to the guide - Gido (spelling may be wrong). He was very knowledgeable and even though we were the only English speaking people in the group, he repeated everything in perfect English...
Read moreThe caves are really spectacular! Bring a jacket because even in summer, these caves are only 12°C. The guide switches seamlessly between French and Dutch (Flemish) which at times can be a little hard to distinguish when he switches.
The Sabbath cave is really imposing with the little light show and the music. I was positively whelmed by the sight of the beautiful formed stalactites and stalagmites.
