Such a special place! We came across Caracal Rehabilitation Centre by pure chance, and we’re so happy that we did! All of their animals (besides the reptiles) are rescues and are being cared for before being released back into the wild. We did a guided tour with Kedu for 150 Pula ($11) per person and all of the money goes back towards the animals. You can tell that Kedu loves and cares for all the animals, and they in turn love him back. Most notably, Lana, a young impala, followed us around for the duration of our time there and is so tame that she lets you stroke her head and tickle her chin. We got to see vultures, eagles, hedgehogs, snakes, a warthog, an impala, a waterbuck and even a civet. Most importantly, the animals are all kept in good conditions with food, water and shelter. Important to note: there’s a sign on the gate that says that they only accept payment by card, but their machine was offline when we were there so we had to pay in cash. A must-visit when in Kasane!

A wildlife center that is working to break cultural stereotypes to protect local species, and aid with environmental conservation. Staff are very informative and you can tell they truly care about the animals. The animals kept here are all injured and not able to be released to the wild. They are kept in cages that are very clean, and have lots of enrichment. It’s a must visit in Kasane to see animals of the area close up learn more about them!

The cute impala “Lana” follows you around and is very friendly to human. I have never seen an impala and all other wild animals this close before. Most of them are either injured or orphaned. Nonetheless, it was still a wonderful experience to be with the animals and to be able to observe them up close. P50 for self-tour, and P100 for guided-tour. Highly recommended if you’re looking for something to do in Kasane!

We visited CARACAL and what a wonderful centre. We only found it by chance via an accommodation website. The security on the gate was very welcoming and organised a guide. Unfortunately we did not get the name of the young man who gave us a tour. It was a wonderful experience. He was able to explain the origin of each animal and how they were cared for and prospects of return to the wild. He was also able to answer our more general questions about animals we had seen around Kasane. The snake section was particularly interesting and it was clear he had a passion for these reptiles. If you are in Kasane I suggest you make a visit here one of the things that you do. There is a Women’s Arts centre next door but unfortunately we ran out of time for a visit but at a brief glance it certainly seemed to be worth a...

We loved our trip to Caracal, a venture supported by Virginia Tech Veterinary School, where we got to handle a number of snakes including a medium sized python. The intern who guided us was knowledgeable, enthusiastic and super helpful. This was recommended by others we met as traveling and we would pass on the recommendation. Possibly one of the best things to do in Kasane. Be aware that the signage, marketing and presentation are poor, but it was easy to see...
