Another wonderful bay of Ilha Grande. It's a good alternative for those visiting the island to set base at Araçatiba. Abraão is too crowded and noisy at times, while other bays are too distant and isolated from anything. There are great options in terms of accommodation, and the sea is less rough in comparison to the beaches of the island that are located closer to Abraão - for example, Lopes Mendes and Dois Rios are less protected bays, so the sea likely tends to be more agitated. Araçatiba is also well known for being a good dive location, and it is quite close to the amazing natural cave of Acaiá - it's beauty transcends enough words to describe. Not to be missed, indeed. There are tons of great walking trails leaving from the bay of Araçatiba, the longest being the trail to the bay of Bananal, with many beaches to stop along the way - in total, this trail stretches up to 32 kilometres. It is not a very difficult walk, but it will certainly be hot and will require some walking skills in rainforests. The views along the way are fantastic, as well as loaded with unforgettable waterfalls and typical fauna e flora all around just to greet you. Highly recommended...
Read moreFrom the beaches in Ilha Grande, this beach is very special. It is what the village of Abraão used to be 20 years ago. Calm, serene, beautiful, and less touristic. Nonetheless, it has very comfortable accommodations, pousadas, bars & restaurants to rival Ipanema Beach. If you stay here, the afternoons to evenings is a time to unwind. To relax. To bathe in the calm beach waters. Even at weekends, it is relaxing. The only advice is the lack of transport from here to Abraão. You can go day trips around the island, but going to Abraão for the day will mean a boat back to Angra dos Reis and their normal boat to the town. Again, to return, a boat to Angra and the boat taxi here. I think the local authorities should consider a link boat between the places. Don't let this stop you. Staying here is one of the best options on the island. And we...
