Borisova Garden, located in Sofia, is a vibrant and beloved green oasis in the heart of the city. Spanning over 130 hectares, it is the largest park in Sofia and a cherished recreational spot for residents and visitors alike.

Named after Bulgarian Tsar Boris III, Borisova Garden offers a welcome respite from the bustling urban environment. Its sprawling lawns, meandering paths, and picturesque lake provide a peaceful escape where people can relax, exercise, or simply enjoy the beauty of nature.

The park offers a wide range of activities to suit every interest. Fitness enthusiasts can take advantage of the numerous sports facilities, including basketball and tennis courts, football fields, and a swimming complex. For those seeking a more leisurely experience, there are cozy benches, charming gazebos, and well-maintained gardens perfect for picnics or peaceful strolls.

Borisova Garden is also home to some notable landmarks. The iconic Eagles' Bridge, adorned with sculptures of majestic eagles, marks the entrance to the park and serves as a symbol of Sofia. The Astronomical Observatory and Planetarium offer fascinating opportunities to explore the mysteries of the universe, while the Borisova Gradina Stadium is a popular venue for sporting events and concerts.

Throughout the year, the park hosts various cultural events, festivals, and concerts, attracting a diverse range of visitors. From open-air exhibitions to live performances, Borisova Garden provides a vibrant and dynamic space for the community to come together and celebrate.

Whether you're seeking tranquility, recreational activities, or a cultural experience, Borisova Garden has something for everyone. The park has an ‘urban’ part which is family friendly, appropriate for dog walks, and also suitable for friend meet-ups, chilling out and practicing some sport activities like badminton/speedminton, hacky-sack, cycling, etc. There is also a ‘virgin’ part that resembles a forest with only one alley that is paved. The trees and bushes there are quite dense and it’s a good place if one would want to be isolated from the masses.

A year ago, before a renovation of the popular part took place, there used to be a convenient way for buying drinks and some fast food, but now the pavilions are removed. There are several fountains from which one can drink water but it’s best to not rely on those since they’re working only during the warm seasons and are relatively sparsely placed. The plans are for almost all restaurants/bars to be removed in the near future (Maimunarnika, Veseloto Selo, and who knows what else) which is disputable how exactly would be beneficial for the park’s visitors.

The park is also home to the infamous Mariya Louiza swimming pool. Once one of the best places to go to and refresh yourself in the summer heat, it has been closed for the past 10 years or so. The municipality keeps promising that it’ll be working again ‘next year’, but nothing really happens. If this really happens soon, it surely is a good place to spend a few hours...

The oldest and best-known park in Sofia is Borissova gradina (Borissova garden) . Its construction and arrangement began in 1884 and it is named after Bulgarian Tsar Boris III.

Today the park offers a lot of activities for every taste. Here you will find the National stadium, professional football stadiums, tennis courts, hippodrome, lakes, a cycling truck, as well as several cafes and children’s play areas. The park is very shady in the hot summer days, filled with lovely flowerbeds. It is a popular destination for Bulgarians and tourists to go for a walk or a picnic or to gather and have a cold drink under the tree shadows. A lot of people are riding bicycles or do some physical trainings.

The Borissova gradina is filled with statues of Bulgarian writers, painters and politicians from the past. One of the most popular places in the park is the Water Lilly Lake. The eastern end of the park is dominated by a gigantic communist monument built in 1956. It’s known as the Mound of Brotherhood, and features a 42m-high obelisk and socialist-realist icons including a pair of...

Beautiful and iconic park in the heart of Sofia. It’s spacious, green, and full of history. You’ll find wide tree-lined paths, flower gardens (especially the Rosarium), and peaceful spots like the lily pond and the Japanese corner. Great for walking, jogging, or just relaxing on a bench. There are playgrounds for kids, sports areas, and even cafés around if you want a drink or snack. Easy to reach by metro (Stadium Vasil Levski station is right next to it). Some parts are a bit less maintained, but overall it’s one of the best places to enjoy nature and unwind in the city. A must-visit if you’re in Sofia!
