In short: terrible service and tried to scam me. One star because of the food, it was really tasty.

I came around 20:30 and my first impression was that the place was closed. Door closed, then inside I didn’t see anybody, just a big sign: go to another room. Then I reached the bar/grill, where the man who was there, not in a very kind way, told me to wait.

After waiting for around 3 minutes HE appeared, the star of the night. Old man with glasses. He showed me my table and he literally threw the menu on my table from 2 meters away. I was in shock, really. First time in my 25 years this happening. I’ve been in more than 20 countries and in uncountable number of restaurante and NOWHERE a waiter did such a thing. Moreover, he knew that I’m a tourist and still threw the menu in Bulgarian.

The blond waitress was very kind and changed the menu for me. My food came and I enjoyed it a lot. Then was time for the bill. The “star of the night” showed up with the bill and with the machine as I wanted to pay by card. I paid without seeing the quantity and it was my mistake. The “star” overcharged me by 30 LEV (15€) and I left without knowing it.

After 10 minutes outside, returning to my hotel, I checked my bank balance on my Revolut account and I saw the bill from the restaurant: 31,95€!! No way I spent that much ordering 1 starter, 1 side and 1 second. I returned to the restaurant and the “star” was so furious. Of course, nobody likes when you discover their scam. He was so nervous looking for my bill, acting like he couldn’t find it. As I know, restaurants keep all the bills of the day, what a coincidence that he couldn’t find mine. I took a menu and started to show my order and I even had pictures of what I ate. He left and returned with 30 LEV and of course he apologised. But it is not enough for me. I don’t know why but he didn’t like me from the beginning so he tried to scam me, but I always win!

If someone asks me where to eat in Sofia, I will tell them where NOT to and it will be...

Worst experience in Sofia

My boyfriend and I went yesterday on Oct 2nd 2017 to this restaurant.

He ordered mixed grill meat and fries with cheese. All meat except the sausage was completely cold and fries too what it means that they cooked that probably long time ago and then decided to serve it as it was fresh. On top of that, when he asked for another dish, the waiter was not friendly at all and not bothered to say even sorry, he just took the meals. After that, another waitress came (with brown or blond hair, cannot remember exactly) and she brought the food back but same meal just heated in the microwave!! And she even admitted that. The waitress was more arrogant and unfriendly (maybe they compete, who would serve the guests worse) and she told us that the dishes were fresh and cooked just before they were served what is a joke, of course not, but she did not care about what we think.

If it was not too late that evening, we would leave the table and go to eat in another restaurant. Instead, we continued it to eat the meal from the microwave.

I ordered roasted beans and smashed potato. The potato was good but beans were so so, average.

In total, very very poor experience and not recomendable at all!

If anyone from their staff decides to reply on this comment I would suggest them to not tell us that it was fresh cooked meal. My boyfriend works for a long time in gastronomy so can really say from experience but even any person no matter of experience would notice that is cold. So just admit mistake and do some proper training on your staff to avoid this...

Dissapointed . Reserved a table for 8 people, arrived at 20.00 pm of a Saturday night, we ordered some starters like french fries, salads, a few kiuftes and some drinks. Around 21.00 hs , when we wanted to start eating a propper dinner ; everyone where looking what to choose on the menu , just to hear that they where closing the kitchen at 21.00 hs , on a Saturday night. We even had the bill on the table with out even asking it, and it was not even 21.30 hs. Absolutely rude, the attention has been terrible, the prices are very expensive for the service received. Yes, the place is nice, but we left hungry and ended up eating at McDonald's. We stayed talking the rest of the night about the unusual thing of going to have dinner, at a fancy place, and that they don't want to serve us dinner at 9 pm on a Saturday! Of course none of the 8 will return or recommend going there. In Sofia there are plenty of places to eat well, at a better price than here, and where they serve you accordingly. I don't understand how the manager of a place as nice as this, allows them to close the restaurant so early and leave people hungry. It was so clear that they just wanted to kick the clients off the restaurant to go home early , the behavior of the waiters where...

Where do you go for authentic Bulgarian food - right here! From the moment you enter this old style Bulgarian house, converted to a restaurant, you go back in time! Nestled in a quiet neighborhood by the park, under the linden trees, this restaurant's magic throws you back in the atmosphere of old Bulgaria - the decor, the furniture, the spirit of this place- like none other. The menu is extensive - soups, appetizers, main dishes, desserts. All of the ingredients are local, fresh and oh-so-good! We celebrated a graduation, so we were a bigger group - everything we tried was delicious! The salads are made with tasty tomatoes and different kinds of made by the restaurant cheeses! We tried the hearts (a must!), the liver (also a must), the tongue(another melt in your mouth must) as appetizers and a ton of main dishes to share - I would highly recommend the Bansko starets! The baked beans - grafche tafche- I can live on that! Call and make reservations in advance - it gets super busy! The staff is phenomenal! Knowledgeable, friendly, attentive! Thumbs up all the way!

The most horrible experience I have ever had in Bulgaria! Yesterday we went there and there was no free place so we've made a reservation for today. When we arrived, the hostess was very unpleasant and led us to the table in the corner, with very unconfortable chairs. We asked to be seated to another 2-person table, and they let us to do so. Then, they waited for us to make an order and then they came to us and told us that we nees to move after all. That is not the way to treat a guest, that is a humiliation of someone who comes to your restaurant to give you money! It is obvious that that they leave the comfortable places to the local guests because they will maybe come back. Therefore, if you are a tourist, evade this place and email me so I can gove you at least five places with better food and service for less money. For 2 main dishes 2 drinks and one dessert we've payed around 60 euros.

Incredible place! Real traditional Bulgarian food. The atmosphere is nice and traditional too. The service was incredibly helpful and friendly. I didn't know this place until last night, and now I believe it's one of the best restaurants in Sofia. Must-go for tourists if they want to try the real Bulgarian food. We had amazing starters and salads: shopska, bean soup, kyopolu (aubergine spread), lyutenitza (peppers spread), and the best one, sarmi (stuffed vine leaves). For the main, we had vegetarian Satch (they serve it sizzling!!), potatoes with dill and garlic, and pork skewers. Hmm, I want it all again, it makes my mouth water just thinking about it. They even have their own farm, where they source most of the ingredients! Even the meat is from their own livestock!
