Update: there is now 2 larger, brand new basketball courts down closer to the beach, which are very nice! Along with a bunch if volleyball courts. There is also a new boardwalk on the beach so everyone can enjoy the beautiful views and sunset/sunrise that Leamington gets. The splashpad is very fun for the kids, refreshing on a hot day. Lots of tables and loungers available; bathrooms and change rooms are inside the fenced splash pad area. There is also an accessible washroom with change area. Usually very clean and well maintained. Not very busy in the morning but gets to busier in the afternoon most days.
The playground is a very short distance away (from splash pad) Lots for the kids to play and climb on. benches all around the area to sit at and big trees for shade. There are small bbqs and picnic tables scattered about the park and there is a small basketball area beside the playground. There are Washrooms available nearby but not always clean or stocked.
At the bottom of the big hill there is another set of change rooms and washrooms with showers. There is also a small place to get food and drinks. A great place for...
Read moreIt's kind of sad. Back in the 1980s, I discovered this beach by accident and immediately fell in love with it. It was, at the time, the closest thing to a California style beach within driving distance of Detroit (I'm an American). The perfect place for a poor college student to go to for a one day vacation away from the frantic pace of the big city. I would leave early on a Sunday, sometimes with friends, cross the bridge, get there by 9 AM and stay until sunset before going home sunburned and Sun buzzed. There was the break wall, the restaurant on the pier and no shortage of friendly people who didn't mind some Americans hanging out with them. That was then. Now the break wall is closed, the restaurant is gone and the beach is polluted with dead fish washing up. The crowds of people aren't there and who can blame them. It's sad that the city of Leamington and the province of Ontario let this happen. I might not frequent it as much now that I'm in my fifties but it would have been nice to seen that a place I had so much fun at as a kid would have...
Read moreThe beach is well maintained, if you can get a spot in the lower parking lot its a quick walk across a boardwalk then you have choice pickings of spots along the soft sand, to the right is a little rockier, the left is a little more sand. The bathrooms and changerooms are easily accessible but closer to the parking lot. The outdoor shower has 2 heads, one for your feet and another to get everything else, and GREAT pressure to help get the sand off.the water is usually calm and the sand is fairly shallow for almost 25 meters so it can be a pro/con as you can get out pretty far before you can't touch the ground which is great for parents who want to introduce their kids to the water but it can be a little shocking if you have more independent kids who might be tempted to go out farther than you would feel comfortable with especially if you have several to watch. This beach also offers a lovely splash pad and jungle gym up the hill if you plan on making a day out of it. Great spot to picnic and spend the day! Never...
