Spent a lovely Sunday afternoon at Kacaba. We are regulars there. Obviously we love the wine. Kacaba hands down has the best selection of red wine anywhere in the Niagara wine region. Whether you're a light bodied redster or prefer big & bold, Kacaba has the red for you. And the Staff are all amazing. Always love spending time with Joe and Collin in the back room tasting new releases and back vintages alike.
We have also frequently taken advantage of the food and wine pairing events that Kacaba hosts bi-monthly. Always always fantastic. This weekend, was no exception. Well, actually it was an exception because it was extra exceptional. The theme was Mediterranean. This time, I HAVE to give an extra shout out to Chef Steve and Zooma Caters who do the food for this event. The event is always amazing food and inspired wine pairing. But this weekend, the Lemon and Arugula Orzo Salad with goat cheese was just simply awe inspiring. Chef Steve is truly a culinary master of his craft. I can't recomment enough trying to partake in one of these events. And Chef Steve...I will be hunting you down for the recipe for...
Read moreThis was kind of a spur of the moment stop for us when we were bored one day. A little research later, and we stumbled upon Kacaba Vineyards. Their wine is good, and they’ve got the medals to prove it. While none of their wines quite managed to crack my all-time favorites list, I did enjoy everything I tasted. The closest to doing it was the Terraced Vineyard Syrah, which had dark fruit notes and surprisingly, pie crust. I could see this as an absolutely ideal autumn wine, and it hit the spot for me. I will say that this was VERY close to going in my favorites – unfortunately, I can’t get it all the way down here in New Jersey. My girlfriend enjoyed the Pinot Gris so much that we snagged a bottle to take home.
Perhaps the defining factor of Kacaba Vineyards, and what I think warrants five stars, is the knowledge shown by the gentleman who did our tasting for us. I learned so much about the effect that the Niagara Escarpment has on wines, why their wines taste the way they do, what areas of the vineyard their roots are, and even about wine in general. It was like a mini wine class, and we very much appreciated...
Read moreWe usually visit the Niagara region several times a year and when we do, set up our own tour. Todays was the second visit to this winery in a little over five weeks. For this tour our group was 7 but included only 4 ‘active’ tasters. This was the first of four winery visits that were completed this trip (Kacaba was the only repeat). The facilities are impressive. We did not make a reservation for this tasting visit and we were taken in upon arrival - excellent. The tasting was conducted indoors and the associated tasting fees are reasonable. Jessica was our host for this visit and she was very good. She was very knowledgeable with respect to each of the varietals that we tasted. While white wines are available for tasting this winery is known for reds, and they did not disappoint. An excellent experience this visit – continues to be one of our favourites. We did purchase several bottles at the wine shop at the end of the tasting. We will definitely return for another visit...
