They turn you away when you're literally a couple (5) minutes late! Be careful. I drove all the way here and wasn't told what I would need to bring or anything. Never got a booking confirmation with any details as one might think when booking. It's not very beginner friendly or new client friendly. They also don't let you know doors close. Got confused sorting out what I needed and came a few minutes late just for them to turn me away swiftly without any make up class / anything like that. Even if they had good instructors and knowledge-which I am sure they do- it really ruins the experience and I personally won't be coming back. I came for open house but I'd be careful if you're planning on a class pack- id fear they won't give you your credit back if you run a bit late and that doesn't sit well with me as a potential customer. Even if on membership, at best it's still a waste of my time and gas. It's a shame I won't get to experience this. 2 stars because of the lack of communication and clarity. Couldn't experience the full thing so take that as what you will. So I added 1 star because of that =3 star. Edit: had to lower my stars. They definitely wouldn't give your credit back. They just emailed me saying they will charge me $10 and on top of removing a credit for "not showing up". Thankfully I don't have credits yet, but that's their typical protocol. That's quite absurd to me. I've never had studios this strict or pull random charges like this, it's not normal. If you're someone who's never late, this won't be a problem at all and I'm sure the experience is great. However, again, not very new client friendly nor empathetic with the way they deal with latecomers. To clarify in response: Was there under/right at 5 minute mark and never got an email...
Read moreI’ve only tried yoga once before my visit to MYM and overall am quite intimidated by fitness classes.
My first visit was to a Moda Flow (60) session with Junior on a Saturday in November and at the time, a blonde-haired girl (sorry I can’t recall her name) was working the front desk - both were super friendly and nice when receiving me and showing me the facilities. I’ve also had classes with Chinmayee, Sean, Jodi and a few others and their level of instruction is consistent :).
When it comes to classes itself, I appreciate that the instructors are genuine - they care about the practice but are not too intimidatingly so for people like me who are so called less ‘yogi’ than others. They’re not afraid to crack light jokes and create a friendly and casual atmosphere. If the class is a smaller size, they take the extra time to provide guidance and correct your position. The location pulls a diverse crowd when it comes to age and skill - so it really is comfortable for all.
Their class schedule is varied - I particularly like the 9:30 PM Weekday options as it allows me to make a last minute class without having to rush from work or through dinner. And the few weekend options are great for when I can’t make that first alarm ;).
I am 3 months into my ‘practice’ and will be purchasing my second bundle of classes so soon - so you might even call me a convert :) and I’d let that be a reflection of the MYM experience. Thanks to the team and all the fellow members for really creating a beginner-friendly and approachable...
Read moreI was recently informed by Markham Yoga that I mistakenly posted this review on their page so I have removed it and I am now reposting it here. This was written right before Bare Yoga and Athletics rebranded itself in December:
I've been to a number of Modo Yoga studios in the past and tried Modo Yoga Markham as part of their introductory two-week deal. Unfortunately this studio lacked many of the basic amenities expected of a yoga studio. I was shocked to find that there was no water bottle refill station, no showers, and no full locker in the change rooms for belongings. I tried the yin, barre, flow, and yoga with weights classes. The yin class with Agnes was essentially the flow except slowed down, and the positions weren't held for longer stretches, like you would typically do so in yin. The barre with Monique also shocked me because it felt like things were being made up on the spot and did not have the same structure as my other barre classes would (i.e., there was clapping). I enjoyed the flow with Agnes and the yoga with weights with Monique, but would likely not return here due to the overall missing amenities and...
