Mattawa Charming Town, Where Two Rivers Meet

If you're heading west from Ottawa on Highway 17, make sure to stop in Mattawa, a beautiful town about 3.5 hours away.

We visited the Mattawa Museum and had a wonderful experience. The staff was warm and professional and showed us stunning handmade crafts by local artisans. Be sure to buy local artisan products. They’re high quality and truly one-of-a-kind.

The museum sits in a scenic riverside spot with lots of seating and parking. The town itself has parks, picnic areas, charming craft shops, and cozy local restaurants.

Highly recommend making a stop in Mattawa if you're traveling along...

We visited the museum on a Monday. Were greeted by a friendly face and paid our $5 entrance fee. We stayed in the museum for at least 1.5 hours looking at all the displays and learning about Mattawa history and local people (artists, politicians, lawyers and doctors, and the wife of the famous Grey Owl) who all became quite famous in their lives.

Enjoyed all the displays and historic mementos. All in all a very pleasant experience. We were greeted by the curator Judy on our departure and shared a wonderful conversation with her.

We would recommend a visit to the Mattawa Museum...

We are camping an hour away and honestly just came to Mattawa to say we had been here (know it through Stompin' Tom). We had NO idea there was so much fascinating hostory to this proud little town!! I have been looking for origami crane jewelry forever, as they are a reminder of our late 13 year old daughrer, who made 183 of them while fighting cancer. A...

Had great experience to know the aboriginal life style and the experiences this place has to share regarding the history of canada Lady at the front was very helpful In Going thru detail and explaining each one of them. It is 3 floored museum where basement is dedicated to rail and upstairs is to understand Mohawk life. CP rail museum in the ground floor was worth spending time to go back in the history and look at it.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ A wonderful place to visit! We rode our motorcycle all the way to Mattawa, and the trip was absolutely beautiful. The museum is full of history and very well presented, giving a great sense of the local culture and heritage. It was the perfect destination after such a scenic ride. Highly recommended to anyone passing through the area!
