Like many others, I was on that (old) bridge around 1975ish. Can’t remember the exact year. We were on a road trip from home in Winnipeg going to Prince George BC. Mom thought it would be a good ideal to stop along the way to see some of the sights like the Souris swinging bridge. Old and rickety, mom was completely freaked out when my brother and I would be on either side of her and started swinging that old bridge! I’m 64 now, living in Calgary. The wife and I recently took a road trip to Winnipeg. We stopped along the way to see some of the sights and stopped at the swinging bridge. I’m glad to see the remnant of the original there to see why my mom got so upset! It’s hard to believe that bridge held up to all the abuse it likely took at the hands of all the young boys (me and my brother!) The new bridge? An absolute engineering marvel. Looks like it’ll be around for centuries the way it’s built. Well done. A great place to...

My grandma lived in the town of Souris when I was a child. I hadn't visited in many years since her passing. On a road trip we stopped to walk through town and cross the Swinging Bridge. I have so many memories of crossing the old wooden bridge as a child. We would run across and try to scare each other by making the bridge sway as much as we could! The bridge was rebuilt in 2011 and has been completed re-engineered. Although it doesn't swing in the same way now, it has a pleasant sway whenever several people or groups use the bridge at the same time. I love how a segment of the original span of the bridge was preserved alongside the new bridge, as well as their hashtags: "would you dare?" "I survived"!!! Well my family and I survived countless trips across the old bridge in the 1970s and 80s. My husband and I can now say we survived the...

Life is too short!! Take the turn!! I was driving on the trans Canada and seen the multiple signs warning a Manitoba attraction was coming up. I just wanted to arrive at my destination as fast as I could along with everyone else. The final sign came up and I took the turn. Life's too short. I didn't know what to expect as I've never been to a swinging bridge. I thought I could drive across or something haha. I got there and it's a bridge you walk across. It took 20 seconds of courage to step on it and I went across walking. Best decision I ever made taking the turn. ALSO I had a bonus to my little detour and I ended up leaving with multiple questions. WHY IS THEIR PEACOCKS!! I couldn't even believe my eyes. Who feeds them!? Where did they come from!? Why are the roaming free? Did they escape? Are they being feed?? Can I...

Great Manitoba day trip spot, if you don't live near Souris. We came from Winnipeg for the day. The swinging bridge is full of good fun walking across it with the bounciness factor. You can really tell the difference if you are walking alone on the bridge or if there are other people on it - there is a sway and a bounce to it. Saw a few deer that day. Giant turtle was swimming in the river that day. Picnic tables at one end - nice spot for a midday meal. Public bathrooms as well near the tables. Well kept picnic area. Ample street parking on both sides of the bridge. We will visit this Manitoba attraction again.
