The location and ambiance of this winery is very curated and beautiful, perfect for a summer visit. In terms of the wine, the flight was quite expensive considering we had to reuse the same cup, which wasn’t even a wine glass, it definitely takes away from the experience. They also gave us a repeat of the last wine, which was unfortunate. Personal favourite was the Gewurztraminer. For food, we didn’t order anything other than the bread and olive oil, which was $4. We literally got 4 pieces of bread, which were small, so don’t recommend ordering that. Overall, I think the experience was still positive but it could have been much better considering Closson Chase is just down the road.

Broken Stone Winery is everything you want from a Prince Edward County wine experience: welcoming, peaceful, and effortlessly beautiful. What really sets Broken Stone apart is the setting. Surrounded by lush vineyards and shaded picnic spots, it's easy to lose track of time. And then there's Karma—the beautiful chocolate lab who greets guests with the kind of warmth and ease you can’t fake. She's part of the magic here, offering tail wags, calm energy, and a reminder that this place is meant to be enjoyed slowly.

Visited in August 2025. Great vibes, friendly owners and staff (including Karma, the dog who sat calmly by us during our visit). We tasted some wines, which were really good. They produce some unique varieties you won't find elsewhere in the county. The Margherita pizza was great, and we enjoyed our evening on the shaded patio. I want to come back when I have more time to take the self-guided tour around the property and enjoy the calm atmosphere.

Broken Stone Winery - Those who know, KNOW! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

When my wife Kelly last visited her best friend Leanne, in Prince Edward County, or as locals refer to it - the 'County.' Kelly came back raving about this wonderful family owned and operated winery, where they make fantastic wines and pizzas - that she absolutely fell in love with!

The Proprietor's Micheline and Tim, married for 25 years, saw a large piece of land with nothing but grass growing on it, and (figuratively) declared to each other: "We need to buy that large field because only we can turn it into a highly successful vineyard, and if we build it, people will come from miles around to play in it and eat in it!" It was their 'Field of Dreams" if you will!

This past weekend, Kelly and I made the pilgrimage from Mississauga to the 'County,' and before I share my/our experience, please allow me to share a momentary 'digression' into the my past 'Dances with Wine,' where I was lead by the founder of Vintages for the LCBO, Mr. John Tait - a true wine expert. I know there's a title for people with John's Super-Human Wine capabilities, but I'm trying to keep the pretentiousness of my attempt at helping YOU to become a wine snob, to an obnoxious minimum! 😃

With my very dear friend, Ken Choi, the owner of Summit Garden Chinese Restaurant, each year for about 8 of our 26 years of hosting charitable fundraising events, we would have John Tait 'wine pair,' 6 courses of our 8 course Cantonese feasts. This involved John introducing 3 different wines to each course, providing a guided tour and an encyclopedia-like transference of knowledge, that was both informative and a lot of fun! Who knew there was so much romance to be discovered in the description of a bottle of wine?

I became so determined to understand everything that John Tait was sharing, I actually purchased 'WINE FOR DUMMIES' and gave it a very thorough read through. The only problem... by the time I got 3/4 of the way through WFD, I had forgotten almost all the acquired information from the first half of the book AND I was reading entirely without the influence of.... wine!

After all of this 'schooling,' the great wisdom imparted by Mr. Tait, along with the wine pairings and knowledge I acquired as a 'Wine Dummy,' I concluded one very important, all encompassing philosophy about wine and it is simply this: "I either like the way it tastes or I don't like the way it tastes! That's it!

Thank you for allowing me to digress.

Broken Stone Winery has managed to carve out a deliciously tasty reputation for not only crafting very nice wines, they have also distinguished themselves by providing absolutely fabulous Pizza!

I could wax on poetically, ad nauseam about the Reds, the Whites, The Pinot Noirs, The Gamay's and then romantically wordsmith a seductively informative review of low-yielding and high quality Pinot's with sturdy acidity, as it is 'Estate Grown,' however, that would be cantankerously objectifying and quantifying - in the most revealing fashion, my absolute lack of knowledge of what any of that means!

Why? Because their wines taste great! After all, isn't that what you want from a winery? Add the pizza, which is custom-crafted in a special oven that was ordered from Austrailia and pieced together by the CEO's husband, Tim, and you have the makings of a perfect day trip to the 'County!'

Every good cake must have it's 'Icing,' and at Broken Stone Winery the icing comes in the form of great live music provided by a fantastic local Musician - Steve Battig and through the warm inviting environment created by the CEO, Micheline!

As the Chief Experience Officer, Micheline will help to craft your intimate journey to discover great wine on a 1 to 1 basis or as a large group, offering tours, great information and of course, helping you to deliciously wine pair!

Broken Stone Winery is definitely worth the drive! How do I know? With all of the really nice vineyards and wine merchants in Prince Edward County, guess which one the locals always come back to? I highly recommend Broken...

My husband and I came to check out the wine and pizza. Location is beautiful but when we ordered a wine tasting of three different wines we were given one glass to try all three different wines (red & white). Not to mention they all came 10-15 minutes after the other. To have three different wines be poured in the same glass separately was mind boggling as you could taste the flavors from the previous wine. We were also going to be charged for two wine tastings when it was only my husband that was drinking wine. The host said she would only charge us one wine tasting as we bought two bottles of wine? A bit ridiculous. For example parsons gives you a flight of beer with different beers in different glasses all at once to enjoy the experience and comparison. Would not visit this location again. Edit-I’m not sure why I would have to ask to have my flight of wine to be served in three separate glasses seeing as there were two reds and one white that was ordered, but again perhaps that’s not common knowledge to serve it in three separate glasses. It sounds like an error was indeed made. Hopefully it’s corrected for others that come by to support...

My family had a great time at Broken Stone, and can't wait to visit again. They did everything right, and then some! The person staffing the tasting room was friendly and knowledgeable. When we walked in, she immediately offered us "welcome wine", a free sample of a delicious sparkling wine (I'm usually a red fan!). All of the wines we tasted were solid and reasonably priced.

In an area with tons of wineries, many of which have similar wines, it's the little things that make a big difference and Broken Stone does it all well - the wine, and the customer service. Great experience, and we'll be back!

August 2020 Update: Broken Stone has adapted well for the COVID pandemic. Tastings are all now properly distanced on individual Muskoka Chairs and picnic benches overlooking their picturesque vineyard. I wasn't a big fan of the wines this year - very mineral heavy - but the experience was enjoyable, and the staff were as...
