Spent an afternoon here several weeks ago. It’s a fairly decent beach. Good size, sandy and some shaded areas. The water was fairly calm and surprisingly warm (much nicer than Lake Ontario)with no rocks on shoreline or in the water that I noticed. And it does get fairly deep quickly, the further in you go. So it’s great for swimming but parents need to be cautious with toddlers and children that cannot swim, as there are no lifeguards here.
The parking is a bit expensive (around $18 per vehicle) but the lot is practically right on the beach, so a convenient short walk to get to the beach from your car. You can find some free parking on the road adjacent to the beach, but it’s a bit of a further walk and I would assume you have to get lucky to find a spot on busy weekends. There are some shops across the street and further down from the main entrance, like a snack shop with burgers, hot dogs, ice cream etc, a nice looking, fancier, patio restaurant and shops with beach gear. We did not visit any of these so I cannot comment on them.
Taking away a star for the often mentioned smelly bathrooms. They are as offensive smelling and looking as your average ‘port a potty’. This is one area the management of this facility must address. Surely they can make some improvements to do something about the awful smell. The other negative is the cost of parking, as there really aren’t many amenities besides the washrooms. It’s basically the beach with a few picnic tables. But the cost is comparable to other beaches and conservation areas.
Also of note, don’t get confused, as we did, with the provincial park itself and the beach access. They are two different locations. So set the GPS for the Turkey Point Beach, if that is your destination.
Overall it is a decent beach, not super crowded (on a Friday in August when we were there), calm waters on a sandy beach on the shores of Lake Erie. I would recommend it and likely...
Read moreCame to enjoy the beach but found the parking situation to be very unorganized and hazardous. Main parking areas controlled by the Provincial Parks, so if you didn't reserve a parking spot ahead of time you are out of luck at the prime beach area. A parks staff directed us to park way up the hill then walk down. Saw lots of vehicles parked in no parking areas, yet no enforcement going around ticketing these illegally parked vehicles (escpially around fire hydrants and emergency exits). Only enforcement (tickets) was people who didn't have parking permit displayed in certain parking lots.
Beach was clean for the most part. Some areas a little more litter than others. Needs more bathroom facilities throughout the beach area (permanent or portapotties).
Found the beach not entirely dog friendly as lots of other people suggested in other reviews. Lots people had issues with our dog even though we were in the dog friendly area.
Did not like how lots of motorized boats were parked right on the sandbanks and so close to the shore. Very dangerous and congested. Need more restrictions for motorized boats so close to families playing in the waters.
Did enjoy walking along the sand banks. It was pretty neat. The water was refreshing.
Overall, decent views, fairly clean waters and sand and not as super packed crowd wise compared to other beaches. Plus sandbanks are...
