I am vacationing in Turkey Point and have had lunch here twice in the last week-ish.
The food is pretty good pub standard food, nothing fancy but tasty and reasonably priced. They have a decent drink selection and there are enough choices on the menu that almost anyone could find something they'd enjoy. The patio is very nice, with plenty of umbrellas for shade and a lovely view of the beach.
The service is a mixed bag, and the reason they don't get a higher rating from me.
When we visited last week, our server was a delight. She was attentive without being intrusive, cheerful and made us feel welcome.
Today, the service wasn't very good at all. The server didn't give me any cutlery with my meal and couldn't be flagged down to get a set. I did try; I felt as if I was being studiously ignored, but at the time, I chose to give the benefit of the doubt and assume she hadn't seen me trying to catch her eye. (The table next to me noticed, gave me their cutlery and had their server replace it, because they could see my lunch was getting cold.) I ordered (and was charged for) gravy that didn't arrive, and I ordered a 2nd beverage that was seemingly forgotten. When the server eventually came back to ask if I wanted another, I mentioned I had already ordered one. She said "I know", which was bewildering. Why ask me if I want another, if you know? Why not bring me what I ordered? At that point, I asked to cancel it because I needed to start walking home before the rain started, but my decision to cancel it was just as much due to feeling like I was an unwelcome burden as the weather.
I probably should've argued about the gravy charge, but I didn't feel like adding more negativity to my already disappointing experience over $1.50. I just paid the bill and left.
Again, our first visit there was great, so I was encouraged to go back for lunch, but I probably won't go again...
Read moreMy hubby and I had the absolute pleasure of visiting this little gem for a mid-week escape from the hustle and bustle of city living!
Upon entering the Sandbar, we were greeted by the super friendly and welcoming hostess ( I wish I'd gotten the name, but she knows who she is!) We showed up during the dinner rush with only an hour and half til closing - as expected, the inside and outside was packed so, we left our number with the hostess and she offered to call us once a table was ready.
A short while later (maybe 20-30 minutes), the hostess called and we headed back in to order. Joe ordered the Fun Guy Burger and Fries and I got the Philly Cheesesteak and Fries. Food was DELICIOUS, portions were large and cost was quite reasonable. For dessert, we tried the Deep Fried Key Lime Pie and and Cinnamon Sugar Bites. Both were FANTASTIC!
While eating we were absolutely BLOWN AWAY by the staff and watching the owner Carissa interacting with them. It was a Wednesday night, Sandbar was one of the only restaurants open in Turkey Point, they were getting absolutely hammered by customers (some of which were just awful to the hostess), yet, she remained calm, composed and compassionate. Having worked over 15 years in the service industry, seeing her not only hold herself together but to do so with tact, patience and grace was just incredible to witness and seeing the way Carissa managed the staff with such kindness and patience was was a breath of fresh air. Maybe the average person wouldn't care or wouldn't notice these things, but atmosphere to me, is just as important as the food and the Sandbar NAILED IT!
We look forward to returning soon! Joe and...
Read moreTook a drive from London specifically to try this restaurant. The location is great…right near the beach. I ordered the Turkey Club sandwich and a Caesar which were both delicious. My husband had the Rueben. He said it was good, but the bread was soggy on one side. The patio area is very nice.
The reason for only 2 stars? The wait staff!!! Very rude, aggressive and unprofessional!! When we arrived there was a bit of a line up with us being first in line. A lady behind us just wanted to know if they allowed dogs on the patio, so when a waitress walked by she said, “excuse me” to get her attention. The waitress turned on her saying, “can’t you see we are busy? (there were a couple of empty tables and a few waitresses on). You’ll need to wait your turn”. When another waitress walked by, the lady asked her question and was met with a very curt and abrupt answer. A simple “I’m sorry no” would have sufficed.
When we asked to be seated in a Geo Dome on the patio, the waitress that seated us acted like she was being inconvenienced because she needed to find 3 chairs (there was only 1 in the Geo Dome), so my husband helped by finding one. When she came back, she snatched it out of his hands and said, “this one can’t go in there”. The waitress that served us was obviously being passive aggressive by not making eye contact, speaking minimally and walking away before we finished speaking.
I’ll add that at no time did we stoop to their level of disrespect or react in a negative way to their rudeness. Although we did express our discomfort at being treated poorly.
Won’t be returning and won’t be...
