Love walking along the Area that leads into the Carp River Detention Basin. Beautiful place to see and photograph all kinds of birds and animals. In the spring, summer and fall you can see all kinds of birds and wildlife here including Mallard and American black ducks, Great Egrets ,Black Crowned night Herons. Also can see killdeers and spotted sandpipers. Yesterday I even saw a common Tern. You can also see Racoons and muskrats and beavers. Great place to visit if you love nature.Best time for viewing is in the early morning. Come and visit you won’t be disappointed.only current drawback is that there isn’t an area to park your vehicle. With expansions to the area I’m sure that is being considered. The north side has a paved path from hazel dean road to the queens-way.

A Living Classroom will be developed here in the future, which will animate the river and its wetlands. Phase 1 launched in Nov 2020 and includes interpretive signs, a downloadable brochure and citizen science projects in iNaturalist. EcoTrekr, a free mobile App (on Apple App and Google Play), was launched in June 2021 for the Carp River Conservation Area and is aimed at families and children in elementary and middle school. EcoTrekr helps visitors understand and engage with what they see as they walk the paved trail. Features GIS-triggered pop-ups describing site features, descriptions of plants, wildlife, geographical features, historical notes and quizzes. Find out more about this project at friendsofthecarpriver.com

Lovely neighbourhood walking/cycling/rollerblading looped trail This is a short 4 KM looped trail almost entirely paved, along Terryfox Drive and Carp River wetland. There are several habitat ponds along the trail, and offering good viewing spots for waterfowls, migrating birds and other animals. The trail is well maintained, good signage and interpretation panels for a self guided tour. In the summer you’ll see many native species of plants along the path, quite beautiful! We love coming to this trail after dinner, it’s the perfect distance to take young children or walk your dogs. Cloud glazing is also one of our favourite activities. Highly recommend!
