Just love Chapman Mills for being in the city! Best time to go for walk with or without dogs on weekend 🐶 is early morning because this place gets very busy on weekends! Shared pathway for walkers, bikes, strollers, runners, etc. Some stretches of pathway are boardwalk. Lots of nature but when busy with lots of screaming kids, you don't see much. Highway noise too. Sadly because there are way more people than natural areas & parkland, many of these places are frequently crowded. Also, people really need to learn to respect the world around them because sometimes there is litter around and garbage receptacles are only at entrance. Small lot for parking.

Wonderful little conservation area on the shores of the Rideau River near Barrhaven. A short 1.8 Km (return) walk along a well maintained pathway, partly gravel and partly boardwalk, situated between the river and Prince of Whales Drive, you start at the parking lot and end up at the new Vimey Memorial Bridge on Strandherd Drive, crossing over several small bridges and passing lots of benches to rest and enjoy the view up and down the scenic Rideau River. Lots of opportunity to see small wildlife, from squirels and chipmuncs, to ducks and herons. Bring your camera!

So nice to hear the birds again, although I think a nature security person should be hired to do rounds, I don't think fishing is allowed here! Here are some spring pics after the snow has melted and the red winged black birds are trying to impress some ladies... Although not green and colourful yet, there's still much beauty and peace to behold in a walk in nature. I've seen people rush by, and probably not even be aware of the pretty sites. If your taking the time to go, take the time to take it all in as well... Explore...

Parked on the other side of Vimy bridge and walked over. I wasn't sure what to expect but it was a beautiful sunny Good Friday and a wonderful setting for a walk! The pup enjoyed it too, I think! I would definitely recommend a stroll. Parking on the other side of Vimy bridge was empty. I noticed the Chapman Mills parking was smaller and full. One downside was the cyclists. It's a fairly narrow path and boardwalk in parts. Cyclists take up quite a bit of space.

Nice area for a walk. Board walk is really nice. There are water facing benches along the way. Great view of the Rideau river and Barrhaven Vimy memorial bridge. You will see mostly walkers but once in a while you will bump into bikers which can be bit challenging. There is public washroom near parking area. Finding parking can be bit challenging but if you are willing to walk a bit you can park at Riverside park and go to this trail via bridge.

On the plus side the locals must appreciate having this nice walk close at hand. With good access to the Rideau for kayaks, etc and a nice boardwalk through some of the surrounding wetlands, culminating in a great view of the Vimy Memorial Bridge. All in all, an excellent effort to preserve the environment. On the downside it is hard to overlook the heavy traffic noise. This is to be expected given its location, so make your own decision.
