William Mosgrove Tower — Attraction in Ottawa

Editing to add: Building is having construction work done on the outside for the next few years & noise is very loud Monday through Saturday from 8am to 6pm. We can no longer use our balconies and have had to change parking spots. I don’t know how anyone working from home, who has pets or children that nap during the day or who work overnights and sleep during the day, can cope with this horrible noise!

I’ve lived at this building for 5 years now and if I could afford it, I would leave as soon as possible. This is going to be a very long review so buckle up.

My boyfriend, 2 small dogs and I live in a 2 bedroom 1 bath unit here. We moved in June 2020 and were paying $1650/month and now we are paying $1980/month as the price increases each year and likely will a large amount once construction is completed. Our mistake was not reading the reviews of the building before moving in.

The apartment was not thoroughly cleaned prior to our move in. There was so much dog hair everywhere in our apartment. We did not get a kind or informative welcome from the employees. Many questions about the building and unit left unanswered, such as how to use the lobby buzzer system. We signed up to rent a storage unit, but they have all been full and we remain on the waitlist 5 years later.

In our first month of living here, July 2020 there was a murder in the building!! We woke up to many cop cars and news vehicles outside wondering what happened. There was no letter or announcement from our building advising us what happened. We had to find out by reading the news. We saw the images of two men, a woman and a baby entering our lobby. Apparently one of the men shot and killed a resident that lived on the 1st floor. The suspects were on the run in the area before being found and arrested some time later. It turns out that the suspects were also wanted for a murder somewhere down south and were linked to gang activity. I understand that wild things like this can happen but the fact that it was not addressed to the residents of the building that they were now safe since the offenders were in jail, was very disappointing.

The parking garage doors are broken and remain open for anyone to enter at least once a week for days at a time. Garage is absolutely filthy. The floors get washed once a year approx but the walls, entrances and hallways only get their floors mopped and no additional cleaning, leaving everything so dusty and gross. The ceiling in the parking garage is literally falling apart. Multiple times the drywall on the ceiling has fallen and left a huge mess on top of our cars. Many people leave things out in their parking spots such as tires, bikes and shopping carts but the garage doors are constantly broken and/or left open for literally anyone to enter the garage and building, leaving our possessions and privacy at risk. Many cars have been broken into. We have had tires stolen from us.

The employees that work here… all of the other reviews mention how awful they are. I have to say, my experience dealing with Bianca has been nothing but pleasant and efficient. Tanya is the opposite of that. She is a very miserable, person who should not be working at the front desk and being the first face to greet people. Anytime I have had to speak to her, she seems annoyed that I require her to do her job. The reviews regarding her are absolutely true. She is a very rude, loud, condescending, and power tripping woman. She seems to pick fights with anyone for any small reason. That includes with residents and guests, such as my parents when they visited me.

Moved in July 1st 2016. Elevators [3] only ever two running at the same time, third is always broken, one will never go to the right floor [press 5 it stops at 4 or 6]. Very high likelihood of breaking down mid travel as well.

Unnecessary construction, all the time.

Doors and locks into the building always broken.

Garage doors broken ALL THE TIME. came home yesterday to find that the garage door had been removed completely, without notice to any tenants. When door is in place it is broken and locked open 90% of the time. When being repaired they tell you to use the exit door [which is locked open] which has almost resulted in crashes as someone turns the corner because they didn't hear your horn. [put a staff member there to ensure people know maybe?]

security of the building- 0/10 Garage door being broken allows anyone to walk in and enter the inside of the building without a key or code, and it is not exactly a nice area. People block open the side doors to the garage allowing anyone to go in and out as they please, no staff walking the grounds after office closing time.

Staff- Most are rude save for 2. Got a ticket parking outside while the garage door was broken and the staff member told me, and I quote, "It sucks to be you because we don't turn over tickets here, you will just have to pay it". And when I have asked about work being done to the building that I am living in I have been told, and I quote, "its not your concern".

Cleaning seems to be kept to a minimal with too much recycling and garbage always lying around the lobby area. The outdoors near the parking lot always wreaks with rotting garbage [I understand this is difficult to control]. Garage is never cleaned.

The week of move in there was a hole cut in the hallway wall of our apartment and left like that for nearly 3 months with no explanation. the doors to certain apartments are very tough to open and close.

I have asked for help on multiples of these matters and nothing has ever been explained, done, or suggested ever.

Be aware of this building and its management as everything here is subpar.

The only plus I have is... The...

I have been in this building 8 months and it has been the worst 8 months renting ever. Elevators are ALWAYS broken. They decided to replace the windows in DEC -30 weather while I have 3 animals in the apartment. The contractors were RUDE they left a mess everywhere, they left my bedroom window OPEN after replacing it ALL DAY. The paint they painted with doesn’t even match the colour of the apartment and the dry wall was done horribly. Staff do not give proper notice of entry for repairs. I have had repair people show up days late, days early and days they weren’t supposed to be here interrupting my life and work schedule as I have animals to cage when work is being done. The water has been off 3- 4 times and building repairs take WAY longer than they are supposed to. There are CONSTANT fire alarms going off.. I live on the top floor so I am not going to collect my 3 pets and walk down 13 flights of stairs every false alarm.. this makes me worry for if there is a real fire! Also I have been told by other tenants that there are bed bugs in this building. The staff needs to be more courteous and professional when talking to tennabts as I have heard quite a few rude conversations go on outside my apartment door between my neighbours and the staff. NOW I am the most laid back person , I have never ever written such a review for any property I have rented. I’m telling you if this place can bother me this much stay away.
