I found this takeout joint through reddit and I have to say I’m glad we made the decision to go there. It’s a true definition of « hole in the wall » type of restaurant as it’s a really small spot, only for takeout, run by one chill Caribbean man and I kid you not, from the moment you step in, you know the food is gonna be lit. Even while standing outside, you know it too from the smell of the chicken grilling on the barbecue. We got the large jerk chicken and large oxtail for a total of $40 before tip (its still the no tax season here). When I tell you that oxtail fell right off the bone, phewww, beautiful, amazing and the oxtail gravy was bomb 10/10. The only reason i’m not giving it a 5 is because there was barely any gravy on the jerk meal, and it was a little dry, still tasty though. In terms of the service, initially there was a bit of an uncertainty about when we’ll get our food, which was so important because we were starving. It took about 20 minutes to get it in the end, which was okay. In terms of the space, like I said it’s primarily for takeout but there’s a bench where one can sit if you’re waiting inside. You could also wait in your vehicle if you came with one. Overall, for the food experience, I’ll definitely eat again and I would like to try other items on the menu. Unfortunately when we went, most things were out. So definitely would give it another shot. Sorry about the images, I remembered to capture the food...
Read moreIt is not difficult to find Do Good Food, you just need to follow the music and let the Reggae tunes lead the way.
This place offers oxtail, curried goat stew, fish, Jamaican patties, plantain, curry, BBQ and jerk chicken.
There are exotic drinks to compliment the food. We enjoyed the pineapple soda and also the mango drink.
The day that we were there the menu was limited. The offerings were oxtail, curried goat stew or curry chicken. The jerk and BBQ chicken were not ready yet, as it takes a very long time to cook on the BBQ. Plantains were also unavailable. So if you come, ignore the menu and be prepared to have what is cooked for that day. You will be pleasantly surprised, at how all the flavours marry together to create such great tasting food.
What was available was delectably delicious. The food was very well seasoned and the goat fell off the bone. The oxtail was tender an flavourful. The rice was heavenly and had red bean in it.
There are limited tables inside and I do recommend take out.
The meals come in three sizes small (single meal) medium (enough for sharing) large (family size). The food is very reasonably priced.
We look forward to coming in and trying the Ital soup and plantain, once the weather cools down.
This is one of Ottawa's best kept secrets. Do come and try the food, as this is some of the best take away that we...
Read moreJust recently tried this place on a whim looking for something different. This fulfilled all expections and then some. Very interesting experience. Good and sorta strange.
Pros: The guy who runs this joint is like a local hero. Everyone who went in for food spoke with him like they were besties. He seems to have some serious frequent buyers who love his food.
The food here was tasty and authentic!
Big portions for what you pay.
Cons: Ordering the food here was a tad bit of a confusing process, to say the least. The man running the business was not clear what we could order and not order. There was basically no menu. You can imagine how that went. I would highly reccomend maybe calling ahead(?)
A bit of a wait for food to be ready (but he prepares the food fresh, so it's expected)
Summary: If you are in a rush, do not come here. (At least if you've never ordered before and don't know how the place runs.) If you have time and you're looking for a great meal, come here. I'll be checking this place out again, hopefully understanding the ordering process a...
