Tom Thomson Art Gallery — Attraction in Owen Sound

Gallery itself is nice, small (intimate), and staffed by very pleasant and knowledgeable people. It does not have an extensive collection of Thompson or any group of seven painters however. What I saw there is nice, by any standard, just limited. It is worth checking out, certainly and especially if you are in the Owen Sound area. I think I would have been disappointed had I come a long distance to see work by Thompson. Perhaps it is my misunderstanding. It does also display compositions by more contemporary artists. Well worth the visit. Very moving and emotionally stirring collection of Tom Thompson works. Also had Group of Seven paintings on display. This gallery includes some local artists pieces... introduced me to 2 artists that I had never known before. Small collection took about 1 hour to tour while taking it all in and spending quality time with one of the greatest Canadian Painters. His presence radiating from each of his works. Very nice little gallery. Staff so knowledgeable. Only disappointment is the short 2 hour metered parking in front. Meter maid does thorough hourly patrol. I've been caught a couple of times in downtown Owen Sound with a parking ticket because I ran over the limit. Not enough time to do lunch and shop/visit/tour.
