Beautiful wood work, gorgeous setting. Realistic displays, if you’re trying to escape the heat there is no air conditioning it’s quite warm when you get up to the top level but worth it to stand on the balcony and take in the breath taking views ! A piece of history being rebuilt is quite awe inspiring. The ship itself is such an ambitious task ! I recently broke an ankle so wasn’t able to partake in the interior of the ship belly, but I peaked down the steps , great experience for the able bodied people ! Affordable, educational, and the staff were friendly and knowledgeable! Would return ! 4 star only because it’s not air conditioned and it would be nice to have a tour guide through the museum !

Very good. Super interesting. Great to say you have stood where the first Scott's landed.

The board walk around the nautical museum, is picturesque even under cloudy skies. The museum itself is well maintained and includes a tour of "the Hector," a replica boat that brought the first immigrants over from Scotland. One can also visit the workshops of the blacksmiths and carpenters involved in building the replica. I was amazed at the craft- menship of the wood carvings, really beautiful. The only drawback is the odour in the air outside, along the board walk. It could be the pulp mill across the water ruining the experience .

I'm not a big museum person, and I spent my life on ships, but I was quite impressed with this place. The Hector has a compelling history, of the family names you see in the area, first settlers it brought in, their hardship and stories, artifacts, photos, re-creations and videos. The staff is pleasant and helpful, and the actual Hector ship guide loves to tell you his stories. How they got so many people in just those few hard wooden bunkbeds? Why is the upper deck rotting and not the hull? What was the upper deck like, during the crossing? Ask those questions, and some of your own. For a non-museum person, I spent a great deal of time here, and enjoyed every minute. I would have been disappointed if I had traveled through Pictou area, and had not included this attraction. ENSURE you allocate a few hours, the town is small, but you will need additional time, per stop. Highly...

I enjoyed my time at this museum a lot. It was really interesting to learn about the early Scottish settlers and their experiences before and after coming to NS.

I’m giving it a 3 star review, though, because there is a complete lack of information on the Mi’kmaq people here at the time and the role they played in the survival of the Scottish settlers. We had to ask to get any information on this relationship, and the tour guide didn’t have a lot of information to tell us other than that the communities collaborated in earlier times.

Outside the Museum, in Pictou, there are many more places that include Mi’kmaq history and experiences, but this is completely absent in the Hector Heritage Quay.

Please consider adding some information to make this experience...
