Just across the East side Beach, there is another beach. It is bigger however is not Sandy like the East side. There are rocks across the beach and get larger the deeper you proceed in the water, July and August months appear to be the months with warmer water. The parking lot is a good size with parking for approximately less than 30 cars. However the one MAIN thing I suggest is calling Port Hope’s Health Department the day before you arrive to see if they have tested the water for High Bacteria levels. I made the mistake of checking 3/4 days prior and when arrived , they’re were signs on East Beach that it was good not for swimming. Yet families with their children continued to swim. Many skin issues can come from this I.e. Swimmers Itch. HOWEVER, the day I arrived to confirm we would not swim based on the signs. But they said ‘That Day’ the West Side Beach was deemed safe for that week end. I just would not take that Risk with my family if Deemed Unsafe as in the water they’re could be Sewer run off, contaminates from ground run off etc. (Their site lists all the possibilities of how the water may become contaminated) So stay informed with any Beach! The beaches are close to another but this side was okay to swim in.
It was quiet and we could have picked anywhere to place our blankets and enjoy the day. Nearby the main town you have access to Lunch, dinner and store to shop or grab some refreshments. Also around the corner is the Ganaraska River which is beautiful and is serene walking down by the river.(This is where the do the Salmon Runs and yearly ‘Float your Boat down the Ganny.’ Great town with East side beach being a full sandy beach and sand bar in the water. Change rooms avail in East Side with a kids park. Sand is like white sand is quite the beautiful spot that I love to drive to and share a picnic or activities with my kids. (Go early to get your parking spot as they is not much space for more than...

Read more5th July - The beach is completely closed for public. The entry in to the beach is barricaded. Can't step in at all. From what I saw from outside it really looked good. I wish I could step in and enjoy the beach. The temperature was very high but there was constant cool breeze outside the beach. I definitely plan to visit it again...
