I've lived my whole life in this province and, despite having heard great things about this park, never taken the trip down to Cypress Hills myself. Having spent 5 days there this past August weekend I can confidently say it's a hidden gem in the province with unique (for SK) geography, wildlife encounters, trails and a great community of people who make the park hum. Highlights would be visiting the observatory during the Perseid Meteor showers, visiting Bald Butte late at night for some astrophotography (with about a half dozen other photographers), walking and biking the Trans-Canada trail and seeing deer, moose, birds, and squirrels all over the place. I would strongly recommend it for someone looking for a fairly quiet, yet active campground with plenty of activities (not much in the way of watersports beyond canoe/kayaking on the lochs) and in particular those who enjoy mountain biking and trail hiking in a forest with more in common with those found in the Rockies than anything in the prairies.

This is a large provincial park on the Alberta and Saskatchewan boarder. There are multiple campgrounds, day use areas, beaches, and boat launches. It is located in forested hills with multiple lakes. Each campground has different levels of utilities from no services to full services with power, water, and sewer hookups. We choose Firerock Campground with power only to save some money. This turned out to be a mistake. Our campsite was lakeside, but it was also an open field with no shelter from a windy, stormy night. The shore was muddy and weedy. However, it was only a short walk to the beach, dock, shower house and playground. The shower house had lots of parking, lots of sinks and showers with free hot water. The campsites were level, easy to park the motorhome in but no privacy. We could see other campers in the woods nearby and wished we had camped there out of the wind.

Hidden gem of the Alberta Provincial Park system and an island of mountain-like terrain in a sea of prairie. Hiking, canoeing, biking, golfing, and fishing are just some of the summer activities. Lots of campgrounds, ranging from full hookups (Elkwater Main) to walk in tenting (Spruce Coulee). Three lakes to choose from, although only Elkwater allows gas powered boats. The Cypress Hills have much historical and geographic significance, from the NWMP outpost at Fort Walsh to being the northern headwaters of the Mississippi River system. The Cypress Hills are also the highest point in Canada between the Rocky Mountains and Labrador. Part of the Cypress Hills have variously been part of the French Empire and then the United States but were subsequently ceded to what became Canada.

This is a yearly trip for our family coming from Calgary. It's a great park, with lots to do for the kids and adults. The weather this year was great, and has been for the better part of 4 years we have gone there. The washrooms are good, and clean. The showers are clean and aren't crazy busy. They are also free. The campsites are a good distance away from each other. You do lose some privacy between sites because the Lodge Pole Pines don't really provide much low level coverage. This really isn't a big issue because there is good room between the sites. They have washrooms and water in good locations so you don't have to walk too far in order to do what you need to. I would and do recommend this park to everyone we talk about camping to.

Our favorite place to camp! Beautiful trees, very few mosquitos, no predators to be worried about, lots of activities for everyone, considerate campers... it's our main camping destination. I love how the people who camp here really value nature so they are quiet, clean up after themselves, and say a friendly hello when you pass them on the hiking trails. Lots of people brings dogs, but they always make sure to clean up after them, keep them leashes, and stop them from barking. The bathrooms are cleaned daily. The beaches are combed often so they stay nice and clean. The only bad thing about the park is the leeches in the lake! My kids are too scared to swim because they are afraid they'll suck their blood.

A beautiful park with much to do. There are a few activities to keep kids and adults engaged including the zip lining and seg way tour. The seg way tour was really fun and we learnt some interesting info for our guide. The area is beautiful and one must see the cliffs. There are lots of hikes from all levels of skill. Fort Walsh is worth seeing to gain an appreciation of how easy we live nowadays. Campsites and facilities are nice. One note: lodgepole pine have their pines up high so there is little privacy between campsites. Otherwise, this area is great. There are plenty of dining options and the general store has lots of goods incase you forgot even the most obvious such as food.
