As a child, I visited the Marine Museum of Manitoba roughly 40 years ago, and though I don't recall much of the experience, the recent trip with my own family brought back a flood of fond memories. The museum offers a captivating journey through history and the grandeur of large ships that have graced the waters in Manitoba over the years.
The museum boasts an impressive collection of ships, each with its own unique stories to tell. As we toured these majestic vessels, it felt as if we were transported back in time, experiencing the adventures of seafarers from eras long gone. The attention to detail in preserving these ships is commendable, allowing visitors to truly immerse themselves in the history.
My wife had some preconceived assumptions that a marine museum would be mundane and uninteresting, but to her surprise (and mine as well), the Marine Museum of Manitoba proved to be anything but. The museum goes beyond simply showcasing ships; it encapsulates the spirit of exploration and the vital role that water transport has played in shaping our history.
The experience of sharing this enriching journey with my family made it even more special. Seeing the excitement in my kid's eyes as they marveled at the massive ships and engaged with the interactive displays brought me immense joy.
While our visit was cut short due to arriving near closing time, it only whet our appetite to return for a more extensive exploration. We will be back, and will be ensuring we have ample time to delve deeper into the rich heritage it has to offer.
If you have any interest in history, ships, or simply enjoy immersive experiences, this museum is an absolute must-visit. Its ability to captivate visitors of all ages is a testament to its value as a cultural and educational gem. The Marine Museum of Manitoba has left an indelible mark on our hearts, and we eagerly anticipate our return to this nostalgic voyage...
Read moreWell who knew of this place tucked in the North East of Selkirk Manitoba. I heard the boats were land docked but where. Pretty cool to walk along them & read of the past history of these amazing boats on the Red River & Lake Winnipeg. Further into Selkirk Park is camping, swimming & rodeo site. It’s a well kept up park and I will most definitely be going back.
August 21, 2020: I had the opportunity to go back to the marine museum. This time with my daughter, her boyfriend & my mum. It was a beautiful afternoon exploring the boats and inside. So much to see, read with lasting memories. The rooms were not overly large. Was nice to go...
Read moreFirst time visiting in over a decade. The boats are well preserved, and are filled with artifacts and information about Manitoba's marine history. At the time of my visit some exhibits on the Keenora were being renovated, and others were blocked off due to COVID.
It's probably worth noting that there's lots of steps, ladders, low ceilings and narrow passageways, so probably not the best destination for folks with mobility issues. Also the museum may be hard to find if you're not from the area.
Overall, a definite must-see for history buffs, and worth checking out if you're headed...
