West Coast Outdoor Adventure — Attraction in Sooke

If you've never tried the Hobie mirage drive kayaks, they are absolutely a blast -- you cruise along effortlessly, much faster than normal kayaking, and with both hands free for photos or a drink or whatever. If you've kayaked before, you'll love it (although I sometimes missed the easy control of paddling -- the owner Allen says that on tours, they'll use the mirage drive to quickly cruise to interesting places, then switch to paddles to explore the rocky nooks and crevices); if you've never kayaked before, the boats are very wide, dry, and stable. I took my in-laws out on this trip, and my mother-in-law is afraid of the water, and yet she was having a blast, taking pictures with her cell phone of the seals and eagles and scenery. The owners Allen and Catherine (sp?) and the guide Courtney (sp?) were super wonderful people. One tip, though: they're a very small operation, so call or email ahead if you can. They said they can open up for people if they arrange it in advance. this was a great expirience for my first time kayaking. usually i would never test my luck or fate doing this in the ocean but the man who owns the business was super and really patient as it took me longer to keep up with the group as I was put with a larger woman who couldn't reach the kayak pedals so luckily I ride a bike all the time so I was some what conditioned but the fact that I was pedaling for 2 kinda exhausted me at the end felt bad but as I said I was at a bit of a disadvantage and the operater was totally cool and hilarious I'm actually still chuckling a bit about it lol good times were had by all so glad I faced my fear and did this,.great expirience definitely...

Couldn't be happier that we chose to go to to Sooke all the way from Greater Victoria by public bus just to rent a kayak. West Coast Outdoor Adventure are open during winter season! After renting a kayak we decided to rent bikes in the afternoon as well. Great customer service! Both the staff member and the owner himself were extremely helpful, very knowledgeable and very warm people in general. Kayak and bikes were in perfect condition. Very well priced as well!
