I live near Sherwood Park and take my 17-month Rottweiler almost daily. This park is great for dogs and offers them a great stretch of running room. I wish that people with no dogs or people with toddlers and/or young children will be mindful that this is a dog park - especially if "choosing" to walk through the off-lease area. Not sure that it would be wise to take toddlers or young children through the off-lease area unless you are comfortable with the surroundings of dogs running and walking through. There are plenty other areas of the park and other parks that you are free to go to if the sight of dogs running loose around you makes you uneasy. Today, there was a couple with a toddler and while I was making my way towards them I did my best calling my dog away from them while they too were trying to block my dogs path to their "precious" little toddler. Eventually, as I got closer to them, the woman, out of frustration, decided to grab my dogs collar and pull my dog away from the direction of her child. I didn't think anything of this in the moment as I was trying to remain friendly and apologized to her by explaining that my dog loves children and grew up with children. She was not friendly and didn't seem happy about the situation. As I walked away, I thought "too bad for you as you choose to walk in an off-lease dog area." Furthermore, as I reflected on this experience - it annoyed me much as I thought how STUPID this woman was to think it was okay to pull my Rottweiler by the collar. She clearly is misinformed and not wise. If my dog should have bit her - it would have been her own fault for being stupid. I hope she reads this one day. I did not put my hands on your child so don't put your hands on my dog. I don't mind people petting my dog and showing affection towards her anytime, and in fact, I welcome it as much as possible as it keeps her well balanced and socialized. However, the fact that this woman was not being understanding and decided to touch my dog in that manner - is not acceptable and I wish I gave her a piece of my mind. After all, my dog was already tired, hot and moving slow as we were on our way out of the park. She was not jumping on your kid, nor was she being a bad girl in any way. Don't come into a dog park if you have issues like that. Dogs need a spot to run and especially large breeds - they need to RUN and can't do it where there are more people like you. Stay out...

Read moreAmazing location and park to hike and enjoy a nice sunny day. Almost in our backyard and I never knew it was even in the city unit I started researching Google Maps. Parking right off Sherwood Avenue and free. The park starts with a great snow hill for the kids to play on. Then it goes down into a gorge with hills on both sides that does keep you warmer on a sunny day, no winds. Trail maps at the top of the hill, parking lot entrance and down at the bottom. The entrance has tables to sit and relax or some lunch. The tails go off in a few directions but you can choose to go clockwise or counter clockwise and still come back to the beginning. Some stairs on the trails and some wooden structures to cross. Perfect for all family members even you're doggies. The trails are all fenced off on both sides and I assume to keep the wooded areas from getting destroyed. But even though everything is fenced in, still very nice, very quiet and you forget this is still in the city. Many people hiking were wearing Ice cleats and maybe a great idea as I was slipping and sliding a few times with snow...
