The Royal Theatre is an event venue and cinema located in Little Italy by Clinton and College. It hosts private screenings, corporate events, live performances or seminars. The venue has food, beverages and air conditioning! They have hosted several films, concerts and festivals.
The venue has food and beverages available in the lobby. There is a well-labelled menu and lots of beverage options (over the counter or in the fridge) and loads of snacks displayed. Customers can order the food of their choice and take it into the theatre with them. We ordered the Tomato and Herb Focaccia which was very delicious, well-spiced and slightly spicy for $6. They even cut it in half for you with lots of generous-sized tomato pieces.
There is a 400 soft seat capacity arrangement. The seats are low inclined, with angled theatre seating that starts angled slightly around row G/H. However, tall people in front may obstruct your view. The seats are comfortable, but some may be squeaky. The soundboard is located at row L, the last middle set of rows before the soundboard at row K. There are no balcony or second-floor seats.
The bathrooms at The Royal are accessible from the lobby and upstairs on the west side of the building. The women's bathroom has 5 stalls and 2 sinks, but line-ups can extend down to the stairs during busy showtimes. Overall, The Royal offers a great cinema experience, especially when watching a matinee show like The Depths of Wikipedia.
Note, the 506 Carlton Streetcar stops at Grace and College and there are lots of parking alternatives with Green P and...

The ambiance of the venue added to the charm of the performance, allowing attendees to fully embrace the music in an intimate and serene setting. Read moreGreat local theater!
Came here for a free showing of Elf as part of their free flick Monday promotions! Getting in was quick, the service was excellent, and the atmosphere was great! I can definitely feel the local love as there was a gentleman who spoke to the crowd at the beginning to let us know of upcoming events and to thank us for coming which was great - you definitely won't get that from a big movie chain.
To support the theater, we got some popcorn and some drinks. Cost is affordable with a large popcorn being $7 and a large pop at $6. You can also get alcohol which was a bonus! Beer and wine at $8 a can/cup and spirits were $10. Side note - it's tax inclusive!
The only reason why I gave only 4 stars is because we were watching Elf - a kids movie. Unfortunately, the previews were R-rated with smoking, shooting, nudity, etc. I understand that they need to promote upcoming features but it was definitely inappropriate and I'm sure a lot of parents feel...
