Some things, prices are extremely high like apparel, kitchenware, sauces, some snacks, but some ready made foods are reasonable. Plus, you are getting real Japanese items and real, more fresh wagyu brought in from one of the most well known and award winning perfecture in Japan (Iwate). You might be able to get some grocery items lower prices from Fujiya which is also a fantastic option (but no wagyu), so you need to know your products, but I still appreciate the uniqueness of Aburi market and the quality. I go there specifically for the Wagyu. While you could find some items at one or two stores at Granville Island (like a couple of pieces of cuts) or American Wagyu certain times at some Chinese grocers but Aburi offers varieties of cuts that is fresh and reasonably priced. West Van is pretty far for me though so I'm glad they opened a Yaletown one, but doesn't seem to offer everything that you could get from the West Van store. Would love to see them open a full store somewhere is East...

My child bought a hot takoyaki from this store. The photo clearly showed it topped with sauce and bonito flakes — which are standard toppings for takoyaki. But when we received it, it was just a few plain balls with absolutely nothing else. We asked the staff, and they told us that this is how it comes — no sauce, and if you want any, you have to pay extra to buy a separately packaged sauce like the ones sold in supermarkets. As for bonito flakes, they don’t offer them at all.
As a seasoned foodie who has tried takoyaki from many countries, this is by far the most unprofessional and irresponsible version I’ve ever encountered. Even small street stalls wouldn’t serve takoyaki like this. If they cut corners on something so basic, I can only imagine how poor the rest of their menu is. I definitely won’t be returning, and I hope others don’t fall for...
Read moreCame to this location with my family as we were heading to Ampleside for the afternoon. My wife say it was a Japanese market so it interested us all as we love Japanese food.
There was lots to see in the store like wagyu beef and fresh seafood for purchase. They had a lot of to-go items (like sushi to donburi) for purchase and there are microwaves to heat up food if you need it and a few seating spots. Today they had $2.50 special for their wagyu croquettes and it was delicious. We also ordered Salmon Oshi, Salmon Avocado Bowl, and House Mae Wagyu Curry with rice. All the items were freshly made and delicious. Pricing is a little bit higher than average but you are paying for the quality and you are in West Vancouver.
Overall was happy with the experience at this Japanese grocery store and will be back again...
