My wife and I customerarily cruise in February to the Caribbean. We've been to Grand Cayman, a tender port, a number of times. During our first visit over 10 years ago we joined a local stingray city excursion outfit, which may have changed ownership. We had a wonderful, memorable time and recall that the mate dove to harvest some conch, which the captain turned into delectable, mouthwatering ceviche. We also joined a city tour again this time which was sold by a kiosk attendant. It was a two hour long trip traveling along the coast by 7 mile beach obscured by hotels and invisible from the van. Of course the first stop was the infamous, unremarkable Hell, a tourist trap; followed by a stop in a Dolphin Cove, at one end of 7 Mile Beach. There's multiple water taxis dropping off and picking up passengers. It's extremely hard to get on the wrong ship when leaving the port since there are multiple signs and they check your ship ID card multiple times.
The port has a good number of shops and eateries. There's a designated spot for pre-booked excursions, but there's also folks offering tours and such at the port.
If you choose to go off on your own, be prepared to show your cruise ID to get back inside the port... even when leaving the shops. Since a few of the shops have street access, there's security at the store exits to ensure you're on a cruise. So have your ID ready.
Lastly, there's a great spot to get a picture of the ship behind you before getting back...

We visited on a cruise along with other ship on the same day. The harbor is so small the ships have to anchor offshore and tender to shore. It does take a little time because of the slower lines but not really a big deal. Do make sure to allow extra time to get back to your ship though because the return lines are very long! Grand Cayman has plenty of shopping, food and the water is absolutely beautiful and clear. Snorkeling, stingrays and the beach are must dos. We always feel safe in Grand Cayman and the locals are always friendly. Vendors are not pushy, unlike what you encounter in...
