Casanova fun, energy, outstanding Italian food and magical views!

Okay, Italian food in the Caribbean? I felt the same way. In fact, I've been traveling to Grand Cayman for 25 years. I only discovered Casanova two years ago. And, yes, I will now go every trip, which for me is usually twice a year.

Let's cut to the chase: my dad is a foodie. I am not. He drives me insane with his scrutiny of food. And, my Dad LOVES Casanova. Yes, a New York foodie who has eaten all over the world loves a Caribbean Italian restaurant.

I, However, love views and kind, caring and warm people. Casanova excels on these fronts as well.

The staff predominantly hails from Italy. So, there is an incredibly authentic Italian vibe. My mom said it reminded her of a beautiful dinner we had in Florence a few years ago, which was a truly magical and incredible night.

I've also been to Casanova with two people and with 75 people. Yes, we just brought 75 people.

Both nights were magical.

Many people on our team even preferred our night at Casanova to our night at the famous Seven Restaurant at the Ritz Carlton, which was also amazing.

That is saying something for Casanova.

Tony and Antonio had the most incredible energy and warmth as they welcomed our team to Casanova. 75 people for some places we went, made us feel like we were a burden. Not here. We felt like family being welcomed home at Casanova.

In fact, it almost felt like a dinner theatre with Italian greetings and phrases flying to our whole group. They made us feel so welcome and that our fun and feelings mattered so much.

The speed and efficiency of serving 75 people was absolutely remarkable as well. And, they seemed to love, not like, doing it.

Oh, and this all with the Caribbean literally lapping 5 feet away from my seat with Tarpon swimming under the spotlights.

It literally felt like a movie set.

The food was also absolutely amazing, including the resets.

The wine fans loved the suggestions of Antonio and his team as well.

I highly recommend eating on the outside deck downstairs as well.

No trip, whether it is for two, or 102, in my future will fail to include our night at Casanova. Combine it with a night at Rackham's, and for me, it is worth a weekend trip to Grand Cayman from our New Jersey home to truly feel immersed in the magic of Grand Cayman.

And, when I do a weekend adventure, I typically go straight from the plane to the Deep Blue Divers boat with Nick and team.

I own a law firm, Callagy Law, and after our trip to Grand Cayman, my team told me if the law thing doesn't work out at Callagy Law, they know I will be okay as a travel agent and tour guide.

I promise Casanova will not only be a great meal, but a magical evening.

Tx Casanova, Tony, Antonio...

TOURIST TRAP! STAY AWAY FROM THIS RESTAURANT! I'VE HAD BETTER AT OLIVE GARDEN!

I have added pictures of the bill and the conversion rate of that day from Cayman dollars to US dollars for context. I welcome feedback from people viewing the review or the restaurant itself.

Also I was with a large group so I can't speak to their overall experience, I can only speak to my experience.

First let me review the food. I had an Eggplant Parmesan appetizer that was serviceable. For an entree I had their lasagna. When it arrived I wondered if they had forgotten something (The Tomato Sauce or Gravy as Italians call it). It literally looked like cat puke, it was just meat almost pureed with ricotta cheese and noodles. My parents had two cats when I was a young man and I had seen the exact same thing that was on my plate that night around the house I grew up in when the cats had expelled whatever didn't settle in their guts... I wish I would've taken a picture but my kids wouldn't let me.

STOUFFER'S LASAGNA IS BETTER!

Now let's get to the heart of the review:

THEY ARE SCAMMING TOURISTS!

As you can see from the bill I posted and the Google conversion rate they are converting Cayman dollars to US dollars using their own rate. They got extremely irate and confrontational when I brought that subject up. I was willing to call the police and have them come and discuss the issue and determine if I was wrong in my assertion or not, but was "persuaded" not to by other people at my table that had been drinking liberally.

For the Coup de grace they wouldn't accept a coupon I had from my resort that the restaurant had distributed for 10% off the total bill. The excuse given was that there were multiple parties on the bill that they couldn't apply it properly. Which is a direct contradiction to their policy written on the menu that there are NO SPLIT CHECKS.

So they strong armed us for more than was owed and the only recourse I have is this review.

Casanova Restaurant in George Town offers a captivating culinary experience that seamlessly combines the charm of its historic setting with exquisite Italian cuisine. Nestled in the heart of George Town, this restaurant is a gem for both locals and visitors seeking an authentic taste of Italy.

The ambiance at Casanova is nothing short of enchanting. The restaurant is housed in a beautifully restored heritage building, boasting an intimate and romantic atmosphere. Soft lighting, rustic decor, and attentive service create a welcoming environment that sets the stage for a memorable dining experience.

The menu at Casanova is a culinary journey through the diverse regions of Italy. From traditional pasta dishes like handmade fettuccine Alfredo to innovative seafood creations, each plate is a work of art. The chefs showcase a commitment to using fresh, high-quality ingredients, delivering flavors that are both rich and nuanced.

Standout dishes include the Osso Buco, a Milanese specialty featuring braised veal shanks, and the Risotto Frutti di Mare, a delightful seafood risotto that captures the essence of coastal Italian cuisine. The menu also caters to various dietary preferences, offering a range of vegetarian and gluten-free options without compromising on taste.

The wine list complements the culinary offerings, featuring a curated selection of Italian wines that enhance the overall dining experience. Knowledgeable staff members are readily available to assist with pairings, ensuring that each sip enhances the flavors of the meal.

While Casanova Restaurant may lean towards the upscale side, the quality of the dining experience justifies the price point.
