Chose this hotel simply because it was on the sea front and convenient point to be picked up for the astro tour.||We arrived late in the evening. The reception was cold to say the least. 'Tatiana' was vile - couldn't crack a smile even. Her face could sour grapes. She demanded an immigration form which did not have and didn't give an explanation. When we asked what she needed it for as she had already copied our passports, she shrugged, said nothing then proceeded with the rest of the check-in. She didn't tell us anything about the hotel other than breakfast is on the first floor - there were 3 floors below entry level and the ground floor was called 'H' - this is where breakfast was served.||WiFi works well but if you leave your device unattended for a short period, you have to keep logging in.||Of the 3 supposed restaurants, only one was open. Part-time! Had to resort to room service on the first night and last night when we returned from stargazing at 9:50pm and were told the restaurant will close at 10.||Upon checkout we were asked again for immigration forms. When questioned about its purpose, we were told "It's for the taxes". We explained that we arrived by boat and didn't have said papers - at which point he added 19% tax without telling us. When we checked the bill and asked why there was a 19% IVA, he told us it was because we didn't have the immigration papers.|I growled somewhat and told him he didn't need them - he had our passports and could see the stamp detailing date of entry into Chile. At which point he promptly returned the tax free form. When I told him that we had travelled all over the world and that we had never been asked for immigration papers, only passports he just shrugged. So we are still unaware as to what all the fuss was about.||Upon paying, he automatically charged us in USD without asking us - we had to tell him to redo in CLP as we are British and were unwilling to pay the markup in USD when we are already paying foreign transaction fees and an exchange rate. Surely it is common courtesy in a hotel of this size to ask which currency you would like to pay in?||The food we did eat at the hotel was ok.||There seemed to be a lot of noise due to some work going on in the hotel but, thankfully, we did not hear it in our rooms.||Rooms were well maintained and spacious. Room service and cleaning was fine and the staff in the restaurant and housekeeping friendly.||We also had a problem with our key card lock which needed reprogramming, as did some other rooms we noted. On day two, the lift forgot who we were so had to have our key card reactivated.||Did not use the casino. Can see it on entry - looked, well, like a casino. Would have been nicer if it wasn't the first thing you saw on the approach to the hotel and entry into its foyer. Seemed...
Read moreStayed here back in Nov 2016, booked hotel with points from US credit card... upon checkout at around 4:00 am to catch an early flight was told by receptionist that booking was only reserved but never paid for and that we had to pay before checking out...we informed the guy that we used points and showed print out with confirmation number that booking was already paid for, the guy said sorry but that in his system it does not show as paid...we decided to call our US credit card company later to sort this out which we did once we got back to the US. Our credit card company reached out to this hotel and verified that they were indeed paid for this reservation, they emailed us proof as well as acceptance by this hotel... we then contacted the hotel and they said that they had been contacted and payment was sorted out and that they would be issuing a refund to what we paid on checkout day...that it would take a few days to process...well we followed up about once a week for about 6 weeks and same story...that refund was approved but they had to wait to refund... a year and half later and no refund ever received...just writing this now because we are about to return to Antofagasta to visit family but will NEVER stay here again, lousy and crooked business practices...I had to inform my fellow TA peeps!
