I was so glad that my wife insisted on watching a Sichuan opera and for the driver to recommend this place. We had been to another tea house at Chongqing and it wasn’t really a traditional or authentic performance. Chinese rap music was included in the performance! For Shufengya, one patron was given the choice of a massage, ear digging (doctor warning!) or dessert. You have to queue for the massage or ear digging so it’ll be good if you arrive an hour earlier as it was very popular. I opted for the dessert thinking it’ll be some Chinese biscuits or cakes but it turned out to be a Japanese pancake with cream and fruits. Disappointing start. However, tea and sunflower seeds were free flow and constantly topped up. The show was about an hour and the different types of performance was worth the price. There were puppetry, musical instrument performance, hand shadow (my personal favourite) acrobat, and the ubiquitous Face change. Each item was entertaining on its own. You must...

Although there are many shows advertised in touristy areas (such as kuanzhai alleys), this opera house is one of the oldest, and most professional ones. We booked our tickets on trip.com. It is worth it to get a better seat, although the souvenirs included in the packages are not great. There’s a display of all those cultural shows (including the famous face changing one), which is entertaining and eye-opening even if one doesn’t understand mandarin. There’s also an authentic feeling to it, with tea and sunflower seeds on small tables shared by 5 people. Massage and ear-cleaning are also done during the show, for VIP ticket holders. Highly recommend...

we watched the Sichuan opera tonight and it was amazing! Absolutely loved the show- beautiful, vibrant and a must see if you are into traditional Chinese cultural heritage. I especially enjoyed the shadow show and the mask show. A nice surprise for us was that the tea which you get at your table gets a refill during the show. Also the sunflower seeds get refilled and are a free addition to the amazing show. We also tried the costumes backstage and took some pictures in the costumes of the opera characters- that was fun but not necessary. The bathrooms need an upgrade and have very slippery floors. So be careful! All in all I definitely...
