The location of the hotel is extremely convenient. It is right next to Kuanzhai Alley metro station, which in itself is very close to central Chengdu and the prime food/touristic streets of the same name. The hotel decor was nice and probably great when first installed, but now it is quite dusty and some bits looked a little worse for wear and needing maintenance. The main issue was smoking. Despite the no-smoking signs, there is the smell of smoke everywhere. We required changing rooms many times until we were provided rooms that did not smell like smoke. However, the staff were very helpful in accommodating this change. The customer service was the best part of the hotel. There weren't always so many staff that spoke English, especially at night. However, if you could speak Mandarin (or translate on your phone), the reception staff were incredibly helpful and went above and beyond in helping to book transport (e.g. private large taxis to get to Dujiangyan and the airport), booking tickets for attractions where this is not normally possible without being a Chinese national (often paying out of their own pocket and personal accounts!) and even going out in the rain to help change money. The kitchen/serving/management staff were also very friendly and helpful in ensuring we were provided with everything we needed at breakfast, including condiments from the kitchen, and customised bowls of wonton soup. The facilities were quite good - there is a gym with basic capabilities, although some machines needed fixing. They provided washing machines and dryers for free, which was very useful. There is a hanging line in the room's shower area to dry clothes, which is quite useful, although it is a little dangerous if you were to slip next to it and when it releases - this could be fixed slightly. The food was delicious and variety of food for breakfast was excellent and well worth the money - probably the second best part...
Read moreWe booked a room with mini bar/ fridge. However the fridge was not functioning and the drinks they left in the fridge was not at all cold. Reception informed us through our guide that we could order a more drinks but no one at the reception could speak English. When I called for drinks, all I got on the phone was a lady at the reception telling me ( in English) that she could not speak English! How is that for a Mercure brand of hotel? Shameful! After the booking, I received confirmation from Trip.com with various offers by the hotel listed for guests: discount for hotpot in a restaurant, free summer drinks ( whatever that is… ), discount for face changing opera show. We decided to take the offer for the hotpot but the restaurant only gave us a reduction of 10CNY while it was stated 88CNY on the vouchers. No reason given and hotel just gives out these voucher without any further explanations as to how it works. Don’t even bother asking directions to this particular hotspot restaurant as nobody speaks English. On the positive side, room was spacious, with necessary toiletries, coffee & tea making facilities. Breakfast was also good. Hotel was also located in a very good location right around the corner from the wide& narrow alley. If you intend to book a room here , just go for the basic room without the mini bar. Don’t bother paying ‘extra’ for all the ‘extras’ which are difficult to make use of if you don’t speak ...
Read moreThe location of the hotel is not correct. The correct location code is M26X+VQ5. I could not edit the address. If you take metro Line 2 and get off at the Tonghuimen station and take the exit C, you will exit right next to the hotel.
If you are using a chinese map app the name looks like: "Chengdu Kuan Alley and Zhai Alley Zimeiju Hotel (Kuan Alley and Zhai Alley Subway Station Branch)". There is a pizza hut branch real close.
We stayed at this mercure hotel for 2 nights. Rooms and batrooms and bedhseets were clean but the corridors and halls did not seem very clean. The room was smelling tobacco even if there was no smoking room sign. Other than this everything was great. Bed was comfortable. The breakfast was splendid. We had the chance to try lots of daily chinese food at the open buffet breakfast. The location is close to some sightseening points but a not in walking distance to Tianfu Square. You can easily get to Kuanzhai alley and Peoples park.
I Would definitely choose to...
