This 5555 metre long ropeway (cable car) goes high up Mount Cangshan and is split into two sections.
At Mid Station passengers get out of one gondola and transfer to another one.
The ride is gentle and provides views of the mountain and Dali on a clear day.
On the mountain top is a spectacular boardwalk with multiple viewing platforms, some with cafes and toilets.
Apart from the viewing platforms, the boardwalk is mostly stairs, thousands of them.
We counted 300 steps from the ropeway to viewing platform 2 alone. It’s a similar number from viewing platform 4 to the highest viewpoint, platform 9.
At up to 3900 metres elevation it can be hard climbing so many stairs. Oxygen is sold in bottles at all the ticket offices and cafes.
If you don’t have warm gear with you, you can rent coats at ground level and the top.
The 300 yuan tickets are for all three ropeways. There’s also a 35 yuan charge for park entry that’s waived if you’re over 60.
The clouds came and went when we visited so we got to enjoy misty and clear conditions.

Read moreA very beautiful place to visit. Although it is sunny at the bottom, it was cloudy at the top. We get to enjoy the view of erhai lake which is super big ya and the mt. Cangshan from the cablecar ride. Although it was super cloudy at the top, we really enjoyed our brisk walk, we took around 2hour plus. Too bad we could not see the beauty of the pond clearly and the view from the top. The price during peak season for the cablecar (return) is RMB 300 , and entrance fee RMB 35. If we could change our plan, we would definitely be taking one way up ticket ximatan, and hiking down from middle station to the...
Read moreGreat views. We only went halfway. The top was in cloud so not much point going all the way. You can hike across to either one of two other cable cars to go back down if you like to hike. Not sure how that works with tickets. Reduced prices for half way trip and for over 70s and over 60s. Note that the base station is NOWHERE NEAR the pin location on Google Maps! This location may be the Zhonghe chairlift? Don't have time to verify. It is NOT the Ximatan...
