Dong Fang Hotel — Attraction in Guangzhou City

After Canton Trade Fair got over I was planning to stay for a night and my wife and child joined me from Hong Kong. The hotel room had too many problems. The tap,in the bathroom would not fall in the sink but on the counter top, the bathroom door would not close, the WiFi was unstable throughout the stay and very poor and unstable. The front desk changed my room but same problems existed in the new refurbished rooms with toilet pot water not passing through,the banthroom sink water not passing through. The WiFi was u stable the entire stay and the staff could not be of much help. The front desk staff wrote for me In Chinese language when I wanted to go to One Link plaza which is so famous in Guangzhou and it is a 7 min ride from the hotel, but she wrote another plaza name and we got into a major argument with the taxi driver taking us round and round Guangzhou and blamed us for the wrong address and asked us to pay the absurd meter fare when it should have only been 18 rub from the hotel. The driver of the taxi got super violent and when we reported our incident to the hotel, they didn’t seem to care much even though we sat in the taxi from the 5 star dong fang hotel. We reported to the police but it was of no use and all of them suggested us to call 12345 to report to the taxi complaint unit but the hotel staff refuse to help us lodge the complaint with 12345 when they every well know we cannot speak Chinese me the only way to lodge the complaint is in Chinese, there was no help or follow up from the hotels end on this incident where their hotel guest lives were put I. Such great danger by such a violent taxi driver. I will not recommend this hotel to anyone, its unhygienic, fully carpeted, very dated rooms and it is just an unclean and non-memorable stay. Not worth 800 RMB per night it is similar condition to 300 RMB hotels throughout China. It's a really good hotel with a rich history in the background.The hotel is situated in a very convenient location. "Yuexiu park" metro station is situated very close to the hotel. Yuexiu park itself is also located not far from Dong Fang hotel and is a really good place for taking a walk and jogging. My room was cozy and clean with a beautiful view to the hotel's inner garden and swimming pool.The hotel breakfast is delicious. Dishes are cooked in Chinese and European styles. Also I enjoyed Dong Fang hotel's BBQ dinner, it was really nice. There are many cafes such as McDonalds, Starbucks etc. and different restaurants nearby to the hotel. Across the road you can also find two shopping malls with many restaurants and cafes inside. For some small needs there is a " FamilyMart" convenience store nearby, where you can find anything.The hotel service crew is polite and speaks English quite well. Reception managers Ms. Carman Lin and Ms. Chloe Chen checked me In very fast and paid attention to my personal requirements. Room service facility was good and didn't disturb me when I asked for it. Duty manager Allen was ready to help even in the deep night hours. In the hotel lobby you can find a money exchanging terminal, which is very convenient if you need to change money fast and anytime. In departure day reception managers Shirley and Stella checked me out very fast and helped me to call taxi going to Bayun airport. During the Canton Fair period, the hotel provides a free shuttle bus that drives visitors to Pazhou complex in morning hours and brings them back in the evening.
