Guangzhou Zoo is one of the three largest urban zoos in China. With an area of over 42 hectares (103.7 acres), there are more than 4,500 animals of 450 species, including rare animals like giant pandas, south China tigers, lions, golden monkeys, and black-necked cranes. It contains three sightseeing districts: Central Area of mammals, Bird's Paradise, and Panlong Park with about 200 amphibians and reptiles. In addition, many entertainment activities are also provided. As the symbol of China, those cute giant pandas are also known as ‘national treasure’. With the black-white coat, they capture the hearts of all visitors. The Giant Panda House is the most popular place in Guangzhou Zoo. But remember to visit them in the morning, since they are easy to get sleepy after eating enough in the afternoon. Tigers Hill The fierce tigers in the Guangzhou Zoo are kept inside cages. Visitors can have a close visit to the King of the Forest.

Lions Hill There are a couple of African lions and two white lions. They eat 6-7.5 kilograms of meat a day. If the lions are fed a few minutes later than their meal time, they will impatiently walk around the cage and growl. After eating and drinking, they usually lie down on the ground and sleep drowsily.

Amazing zoo, well organized very clean and well enjoyed

Guangzhou Zoo is one of the three largest zoos in China. Founded in 1958 .Among the various national and wildlife parks, Guangzhou Zoo in Guangzhou deserves special mention. Located on Xianlie Road, Guangzhou Zoo in Guangzhou covers an area of 430,000 square meters.

The animals inside the zoo are exhibited in different areas according to their types, for example, the insects, reptiles and amphibians, birds, primates, felines, and herbivores. What's more, there are not only rare animals from China such as panda, golden monkey, South China tiger, elk, brow-antlered deer, and black-necked crane, but also those rare animals all over the world such as chimpanzee, giraffe, African elephant, hippopotamus, zebra, rhinoceros, and black swan.

The zoo ever successfully reproduced over one hundred species, and managed the first ever breeding of chimpanzee, Asian elephant and giraffe in China. It has multiplied herds of scores of wild animals. There are wheel chairs for the disabled and special passage for wheel chairs inside the memorial hall. At the same time, there are also crutches for aged people and baby carriages and toys for children. The park is also a national base for public education about natural science.

If you want to see a world class zoo you would be better to avoid Guangzhou zoo, and instead go to Chimelong Xiangjiang Safari Park, in Panyu District, Guangzhou. Its about 35-40 minutes from central Guangzhou city and can be reached by Metro (Line 3, the Changlong Hanxi...

Cheap entry and easy to get to. Upon entering it took us a good 15 minutes before we seen anything of note - with the lay out we didn't see any exotic animals at the start - some goats, and deer's and some enclosures that were completely empty. Did get better after a while - seen some depressing looking tigers and beers.

We had to queue for the star attraction - a panda - just the one on display the day we were there but I think they might have two - the queue was about 40 minutes - but was moving all the time. Was it worth it? Not really to be honest. Panda was chilling out as they do - but after such a wait perhaps not worth it.

Overall the zoo was a bit run down, the animals looked depressed, a good few of the enclosures looked dirty and very basic for the animals, and on the whole the zoo has seen better days. I went to the safari park the week or so after, which was so much better, but also so much more expensive. I think this zoo is for the general public that cant afford to see the safari and for that I guess its ok.

But I wouldn't recommend it for a tourist coming to the city and wanting a...
