If I could give this hotel six stars, I absolutely would. Nestled in six beautifully restored traditional buildings along the serene banks of West Lake, this hotel is a masterpiece of sophistication and history. Its location is perfect—just a 10-minute stroll to the stunning Leifeng Pagoda and a short ride from Hangzhou train station.
The rooms are polished and luxurious, with every modern convenience you could ask for: flat-screen TVs, free Wi-Fi, iPod docks, and thoughtfully stocked minibars and coffee makers. Upgraded rooms come with spacious sitting areas, balconies, or breathtaking views of the lake, while suites offer separate living spaces that feel like a home away from home.
The hotel’s amenities are exceptional. From elegant restaurants and a peaceful teahouse to a chic lobby bar, there's no shortage of places to relax and enjoy. For wellness, there's an indoor pool, a well-equipped gym, and even a karaoke lounge for fun evenings. The hotel also offers banquet halls and meeting rooms, making it ideal for any occasion. A standout feature is the boat rides on West Lake—a unique experience that adds a magical touch to your stay.
This hotel is an oasis of elegance and charm, and truly a one-of-a-kind...
Read moreI would not classify this as a typical ‘business’ hotel given it is located some distance from the CBD of Hangzhou - definitely not walking distance. ||It is however a lovely resort style hotel with lush gardens right at West Lake. It felt very secure given its history (previously government owned and regularly used by high ranking officials, so strict security).||The layout requires some walking between buildings or the use of the hotel buggies (the property has several villas which house the rooms & meeting rooms). The architecture is traditional Chinese which is beautiful. Although the hotel was built some decades ago, the property is very well maintained and my room was up to current standards for a 4/5 star hotel.||Check in/out was s.l.o.w. English is not well spoken by most staff - it is however possible to get by with some basic questions / answers. Like many parts of the world, a friendly Ni-hao (hallo) and Xiexie (pronounced che-che ‘thank you’) goes a long way!||Breakfast can be a busy affair, especially with families. The spread is typical Chinese style buffet but there is adequate western style...
Read moreWe were searching for a hotel that would provide a respite from some intensive travel experiences in China. This fit the bill perfectly. The gardens provide a perfect place to unwind in one of the most beautiful hotel settings we had experienced. We took advantage of the beautiful setting and walked the premises twice daily while we were there.||Although I had read reviews that the rooms were dated and a bit worn, that was not our experience at all. We stayed in Villa 5 and the rooms were brand new and had every amenity we desired.||The restaurants are quite expensive, particularly in comparison to the restaurants in Hangzhou. We enjoyed the breakfast buffet daily, but ate our other meals elsewhere.||The English language abilities of the staff are pretty limited. We struggled with communicating some fairly simple needs. We didn’t run into any serious obstacles, but if you do not speak Mandarin, know that it is not seamless to communicate with the...
