By far one of my favourite beaches in Hong Kong, it isn't the easiest to reach, as you would initially need to find your way to Sai Kung Center, then either pay for a speedboat (HK$300 min. one way), or get a bus 94/96R/29R minibus AND hike from 1hr-3hrs depending on fitness, breaks etc.
Due to the difficulty of access, this also makes the beach super quiet and rewarding when you arrive. Although, that being said, the area is popular for long-weekend camp breaks. Sai Kung District is also difficult to travel into in the mornings, as well as leave in the evenings during weekends & public holidays as this is a popular destination for Junk Boats, and seafood. Expect traffic and long queues for transport.
The beach is well equipped with two restaurants, camping equipment rental, a speedboat ticketing kiosk, as well as public restrooms.
If you opt to hike, the advantage is that you will pass through three other beaches along the way, with gorgeous views of Sai Kung's Islands, if you're used to the city, you wouldn't believe you were in Hong Kong at all. As they can be rather long and daunting in the height of summer, be well equipped with...

We came in from Sai Wan Pavilion, pass Sai Wan Village... the hike was not very long, but the incline can be a bit grueling if you have a lot of stuff. As of time of this posting, subscribers of Three HK will not have cell coverage (but CSL and SmarTone seems to work).
You can rent tents and gear at the small local shop, but expect the tents to be in well used condition and likely smaller than you’d like. The small local cafe is well stocked with beers and nonalcoholic beverages. We didn’t have much of the food as we brought our own, but all seemed reasonably priced and tasty. They only accept cash.
Highly recommended, even if only...
Read moreWe went late November and the beach unfortunately was absolutely strewen with garbage - plastics, fishing nets, plastic bags, tissue papers, cigarette butts. The cleaners come on Sunday mornings and remove the big stuff, but the amouont of micro plastics (plastic cutlery, bags, bottle tops, etc) is obviously too much for them to handle. The weather was cool with some rain, but the beach was packed with people camping three deep. So if you got there early, your sea view was going to be blocked. Off the beach at high tide there is a big reef of rocks so the swimming also is...
