After a long hiatus, due to the Pandemic, I was back in Shanghai to see old friends. I also wanted to buy several items that friends back home asked me for, and I knew that for that I had to go to the famous "Fake Mall". Having visited it in 2019 I expected big changes like many stores closed or less attractive merchandise. Nothing like that. Everything looks just like it did 5 years ago. I was tasked to buy some ornamental jewelry and also a pearl collar. After walking through I settled on 2 stores where I found some great selection and prices (after the customary haggling). For the first items it was Cathy Jewelry at B1-27 and for the pearls it was Lily Jewelry at F-6. Both ladies speak pretty good English and were more than helpful, really taking their time with me, even though other customers walked in. Read moreThe king of all markets. You can find anything you are looking for here! Most things are replicas, and they will tell you that if you ask. You can easily fill up a suitcase full of goods if you get carried away with shopping. Tons of souvenir goods here
I would go on YouTube and watch people Barter if you aren’t good with getting prices down. Don’t be afraid to walk away as they are always looking to make a deal! Be aware that most copied higher end goods are in the back in some random suitcases. Had one lady block the entry way and the other talk about price. The lady wouldn’t move to let me out! I find it funny and ended up what I wanted for the item but some people could find it frightening. Take a friend and have each other’s back when haggling! Wouldn’t pay more then 150...
