The place to go in Shanghai for replica products. Fairly sizeable mall with small stands selling mostly clothes, watches, electrical trinkets. Definitely not as bad as people make it out to be. There will be bargaining and you will make some good and some bad deals. We paid around 15-25% of their original asking price, it's all part of the process and they're good sports about it, it's never personal and if you don't want to buy it then walk away. They will try to convince you to go in their stores but there was no following or nagging us, we strolled around for quite a while. Some brands or higher quality stuff is in secret rooms or hidden in compartments/roof. Basically only expats and tourists go here.

The fake market in Shanghai is a wild and fun experience if you go in with the right mindset. Easy to find, literally just outside the metro station "Shanghai Science & Technology Museum", underground. First tip: don’t buy from the first shop you see—take a walk around and get a feel for what things are going for. Prices are way inflated at first, so whatever they ask, aim to go at least 60–70% lower and start negotiating from there. It’s all part of the game, and honestly, the shop owners are pros at it. Don’t take it personally—it’s like a sport, and they respect you more if you play along. Be friendly, have fun with it, and you can walk away with some great deals.

My family and I visited the AP markets yesterday. There weren't many people there and half of the stalls even closed at 10am.It is easy to travel there using the Line 2 train/subway. Just before you enter the market entrance there are lots of scouts who get paid by the stall holders to secure your business. "Watch, handbag, shoes" are their catch cry. If you like your personal space and don't like random people touching you then this is not the place for you. Equip yourself with basic Mandarin. There are hundreds of stores located on either side of the entrance to the train station. The toys are mostly cheap plastic kits. The prices are not cheap. You need to haggle to get a good price. Do your research on the cost of items before you go. Here are some of the prices paid, which weren't all that great - 450RMB for a high quality North Face jacket, 550RMB for 5 kids branded shirts, 150RMB for a plush panda and squishy (my wife paid this), 75RMB for 5 small brick sets, 750RMB for a pair of latest Nike and Adidas styles. Don't be afraid to walk away. If you show a lack of interest they often give you a better price. That said some of the starting and end prices are well over market value. A blue and medium sized white vase price came down to 350RMB, and 80RMB for a solar powered lucky cat which was still way too much so didn't end up buying them. I realised that after buying something, the stall owner would ask what else we were looking for and then refer us to a sister or cousin. They possibly get a finders fee for doing this. For souvenirs and other trinkets the Yu Markets are better priced as most small items are 5, 10 and 20 yuan. There is also a fabric section to buy suits and tailor made garments but we did not visit this section. Rated...

For all those looking for a good bargain shopping deal, this is a must visit place in Shanghai. You can come empty handed, buy a big luggage bag at a discount, and then go on a cheap shopping spree.

Key points or watchouts: It is a buyers market, which means you have lots of sellers and few buyers, so dont think twice before walking away. The extent of bargain you can score is directly proportional to our ability to walk away. DO NOT go for any electronic goods, even pen drives, as they are 99% not likely to work once you step out of the shop. Stick to non-electrical / non-mechanical goods like clothes, shoes, accessories, artifacts, etc. BARGAIN, bargain like crazy as the first price quoted will always have a 200-300% margin. I typically start from 10% of the first price quoted, and work my way upto the upper limit of what i would like to pay for it. Dont fall for any sweet talk (if at all they speak little english) about you being the first customer, or special customer, or their 'friend' or anything like that, they are excellent salespersons. Dont show interest or too much love for what you see, as you will not be able to bargain much on it. Dont buy from the first shop you enter. As pt#1 states, it is a buyers market, many sellers are selling the same thing, so get a feel first, and then in round-2, start the bargaining. It has many shops, to prepare to give yourself a good 2-3 hrs, else you will end up in a rushed deal, where only the seller will win, not you. I wouldnt recommend using your credit cards here, as i certainly dont trust the sellers here to not skim my card. It is best to carry cash.

All the best, and happy...
