University of Macao — Attraction in Taipa

I visited University of Macau (UM) as a representative from my school to attend invitation from the university in December 2023 with my colleague.

We stayed at their guest house. The guest house is not anything ordinary. The building and the interior are top notch, luxurious if I may say. Amenities are provided as you would get from any great hotel. The view from balcony is stunning. You could see a lake, the library building, hills and the campus complex. In December, the wind is cold and refreshing. Enjoying such breeze at the balcony while enjoying the scenery is a luxury I can't have where I come from. Staying there for three nights was definitely not enough for me.

The complex itself is huge. According to one of the faculties, the area is one third of Macau's whole area so yeah, it's massive. We got the chance to see some of the facilities such as library, sport complex and science laboratory. I'm impressed especially by the library. It's gigantic and spacious. There are lots of books and spaces, open and/or compartmentalized, for students to study in groups or individually. They got olympic-sized swimming pool which was being temporarily closed for routine maintenance.

They also have dormitory for undergraduate and post-graduate students aside from the Guest House. We got the chance to meet two students from Indonesia there. University of Macau is not well-known yet in Indonesia unlike Hong Kong universities so meeting Indonesian students so far is a rarity.

I'm pretty sure with all the facilities and great location, University of Macau still has much potential for further development and market expansion in South East Asia region. I'm looking forward to be there...

The university of Macau is not a satisfying place. I am here for a conference this week. The internet was very poor. It is snail now. People are talking about 5G now but on UM campus it is still 2G speed. The food in the student colleges are not good neither. Very few choices. Transport is not convenient as there is even no direct bus to the Chinese mainland boarder. But there are also good points. People are nice and the campus is clean...

Bunch of SB teachers and good teachers are SSRs. Tell y'all a joke, there are also compulsory in the dorm hahaha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha. Waste of time and money. Major in data Science and has compulsory course of Portuguese, Macau history, Chinese culture ??? Think twice before study in this university. For me personally, I definitely do not recommend it. What y'all can do the best is to stay away from...
