We stayed at The Orchid for 3 nights in Beijing, and we really enjoyed it! It has a great location, with easy access to subway (though the subway in Beijing is pretty well-connected everywhere), and near great restaurants, bars, and sights. It is in the classic "Hutongs," but nestled away so you don't hear all of the cars and motorbikes (which unfortunately are quite frequent nowadays even in the narrow alleys). It was a bit expensive though for China, which is maybe why we only saw other foreign tourists (even though $100-ish USD per night would not be crazy elsewhere, it is more of a luxury price in China). Pros: Free breakfast at either their Mediterranean restaurant or the dim sum restaurant. We only tried the Mediterranean, and it was quite good. Really cozy feel, loved the architecture. Amazing location. Helpful front desk staff! Cons: As mentioned, rooms are a bit small (you can see in picture), but do-able for a couple. Another thing that may be present in other hotels in the area is that they asked to NOT flush toilet paper given the old plumbing (you can imagine this can cause issues with #2..). Also not the greatest sound insulation, especially since all the courtyard rooms just face in towards the same place. If people were talking outside, we could hear it pretty clearly, though given this is such a small boutique hotel, there were not many other guests. Recs nearby: Modernista (live bar, speakeasy) just down the street. Little Yunnan restaurant.

A quaint hidden gem in the hutongs! There's a small shady courtyard and a rooftop breakfast area serving delicious breakfasts which has a very good reputation amongst the expats. The hotel staff were brilliant, all so friendly, interested and they couldn't have been more helpful. We stayed in Courtyard Room no. 3. Very cute with the bed on the mezzanine, and a skylight roof. However, the downside was that the rooom was small, with four hangers for your clothes and no cupboard or drawers. Nowhere to put your big suitcase either, so it felt a bit cluttered once you'd settled in. The room also faced reception so you couldn't really open the blinds as you'd have no privacy, so the room was always very dark. I wouldn't recommend this room to anyone with mobility issues as it would be difficult to climb into bed. I would definitely stay here next time, but I would book a room upgrade.

The Orchid Hotel made my visit to Beijing extraordinary- I should have known- it was a recommendation from my boss! I love the fact that it's hard to find, nestled in the old hutongs, amidst red lanterns, and a bustling street food scene- so much to explore on foot! The staff lent me a bicycle and a smart phone with WeChat and MeMaps so that I could navigate the city and communicate with the hotel if necessary. Their pocket paper map was especially helpful. I felt very cozy my entire stay, even though it rained most days (nice heavy comforters!) The multi-lingual staff are always eager to help, whether to help you download a VPN or make a recommendation. As a solo traveler, I SO appreciated their warmth and kindness. If you get lucky and can book a cooking class, do it and meet some other guests. It's a great community!

I had a delightful stay at this charming hotel that beautifully captures the antique charm of Beijing's old style. The room was a true gem, with a lovely tea set that added to the authentic experience. The balcony offered breathtaking views, making mornings and evenings special. Breakfast was a highlight, offering a choice between Chinese and Western styles, both of which were delicious. The only minor drawback was its distance from the Shichahai metro, but the surrounding area compensated for that with its vibrant teenager-style atmosphere, numerous food options, and exciting nightlife clubs and restaurants. It's a fantastic place for those seeking a taste of traditional Beijing with modern comforts.

We just checked out of our 8-day stay at the beautiful Orchid and from culture & history-rich Beijing! We spent three nights of our stay at The Yin room (with private garden) and the rest five at one of their private residences nearby the Orchid (5-7mins walk). We loved the hotel’s facilities, the friendliness and attentiveness of the staff and the super-yummy breakfast and coffee 😋 We cannot recommend The Orchid highly enough for all the above plus its central location and closeness to places to see and eat at. And if you’re looking to “mix with the locals” and have as much an authentic Hu tong experience, albeit in “all mod cons” style, then The Orchid is your thing. Xie xie guys
