Coming by train from Shanghai and leaving form this train station to Beijing. Train journey from Shanghai to Zhangjiajie was more than pleasant. The train stuff did not speak English but they manage to inform us that we are closing to a station of our destination. The Train station itself for arrivals is quite fine just go with the crowd and you will reach the exit. The departure experience was much more complicated. The information boards and speakers communicate were Chinese only. Also, the train number from some reason was different than on ticket... so there is required a lot of showing off a ticket to strangers so they can point you in the right direction. The smart move is to use VIP lounge. In VIP lodge you will be informed that you train will arrive soon and you will get a priority pass to a platform so you can be sure that you will not miss anything. As for food options. There is mainly Chinese food selection. If you want to get some non-Chinese food you have to go out of the train station (thru the security) and go to nearby McDonalds. (about 100m from the train station)

Caution: ⚠️⚠️This is the old rail station (still operational). This is NOT the High Speed Rail station for Zhangjiajie. The high speed rail station is ZHANGJIAJIEXI (ZZJ WEST Station). However you can still buy the tickets for your inter city high speed rail ticket here (with passport if you are a foreigner). and the counter staff is helpful and patient. 🌟🌟🌟but remember to take the train at the RIGHT Station.

This railway station is the one we took to Changsha. The building is quite large with a few shops available, including a McDonald's. It is much smaller than the one in Changsha, though. One thing I noticed is yahtvtherr is a lot of the massager chairs.
