We were looking for ideas to spend half a day in El Pablato area when we saw this in the list of attractions. Getting here was quick since our hotel was in El Pablato. The castle shows well, it's small, quaint and interesting. The English-speaking tour is a nice relief. Our tour guide Andre very nicely showed the property giving us a chronological developments of the place as well as the family. The gift shop has great scope for improvement. It seem that the gift shop offerings have nothing to do with the castle. Some magnets, pens or merchandise such as teeshirts branded with El Castillo moniker might be a nice touch for souvenir buyers like me. Also, the carpets which are not supposed to be stepped on, are in the path of travel. Perhaps condoning them off or covering them in thick plastic might help the preservation effort. The gardens are also a nice treat on the eyes and can be great venue for weddings or commercial photo shoots. The panoramic backdrops can certaily help here. The experience is good but not great. Overall the place will be a big hit with the kids and family in general.
I come from the land of the Vanderbilt Estate and the Hearst Castle, so for me El Castillo Museum was a bit of a let down. First, they do have English tours which start at specific times. However, even after telling me that it starts at 11 but requiring me to check my bags (for security?!) I go upstairs with no guidance to find the tour had already started. Apparently there is a note on the door that says the tour starts promptly at 11. They will not even wait a minute. For a Hispanic country I find this hilarious. Additionally for such a underwhelming experience, surprising. Eventually the front desk workers took me and my family to the tour. The tour guide was very pleasant and answered any of my questions. I liked him. The "castle" is rather small, and has a mix of original, reproductions, and even gifted items. This made the experience to me a bit disjointed. I would have rather these items be more separate so I could get s better feel for how the family lived. The state of the house itself was in a bit of disrepair. I imagine it's extremely expensive to keep up the property but again, kind of sad. This goes to the ceilings, etc. I really wouldn't recommend going here, unless you are just really interested.
The Museo El Castillo, situated in the El Poblado district of Medellín, reflects the classiness of French chateaus developed by a Colombian doctor with a deep appreciation for French architectural styles. After his death, the mansion's construction was seen through by his widow, eventually making it a symbol of their shared vision. It has since been repurposed into a museum, showcasing an extensive collection of artworks and period furnishings that narrate the rich history of its occupants. Tours of the mansion's interior are exclusively in Spanish, offering visitors a unique chance to immerse themselves in the language amidst a historical backdrop. Manicured gardens envelop the museum and feature a dedicated transportation exhibit, providing a peaceful escape from the city, with parking available for those arriving by vehicle.
The only castle in Medellin, what a great surprise. The collection of European art is impressive. My feedback to the foundation taking care of this castle is 1) repair the roof, there are sections where tiles are broken and been dislodged 2) repair the wooden floor where pieces of it are broken 3) cover the precious tapestries and original art in glass cases to avoid fading and move it so the sun is not pounding on it. 4) rope off and not let people get too close to artifacts , I would hate it if careless people bumps and breaks one of these priceless items 5) Preservation should be the priority, this is such a beautiful castle and should be taken cared of for future generations!
