Wow! I recently had the pleasure of visiting the Our Lady of Poverty Cathedral in Pereira, and it was an unforgettable experience. The cathedral's interior is a masterpiece, featuring a unique roof structure crafted from 13,503 pieces of curly cumin wood, showcasing exceptional craftsmanship and design. The natural brick construction adds to its charm, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere.

During our pre-pascua visit on Friday, March 21, 2025, we were fortunate to attend an ongoing service. The open side doors allowed for easy access, and the acoustics inside were exceptional, enhancing the uplifting and clear sermon delivered in Spanish. The cathedral's location on the western side of Plaza de Bolívar makes it a must-see landmark in Pereira. I highly recommend a visit to this beautiful cathedral to appreciate its architectural beauty and...

It is the cathedral of the city of Pereira. Built in 1854 it represents the house of the Catholicism in Pereira.

It is one of the biggest churches of the coffee region with the cathedral of Manizales "Basilica Metropolitana Nuestra Señora del Rosario".

It presents a beautiful construction on wood in the interior with walls of thick brick at the sides and covered with metal at the exterior.

If you visit Pereira this is a obligatory stop even if you are not catholic. You can come and see it's beautiful architecture and decorations of the interior.

La fundación de la población de Pereira en 1863 por parte de vallecaucanos con el nombre de Cartago Vieja, marcó el punto de partida para el trazado de la ciudad y de sus principales edificios municipales. El primer lote para la construcción de la iglesia fue cedido por la Comisión Agraria el 6 de mayo de 1874 en el costado occidental de la Plaza de Bolívar, por entonces denominada la Plaza Victoria,[2]​ al cual se le fueron adicionando paulatinamente otras áreas hasta 1883, cuando se terminaría de configurar el espacio para el trazado definitivo del edificio, el cual ocuparía todo el costado norte de la manzana al occidente de la plaza. Posteriomente el nombre de la población fue cambiado a Pereira en honor al cartagüeño Francisco Pereira Martínez.

La construcción original, concluida en 1890 se vería bastante afectada por el terremoto del 20 de marzo de 1906 y sería reconstruida por Heliodoro Ochoa después de firmar un contrato con el presbítero José María López.[3]​ Con el curso del siglo XX la población fue creciendo y la importancia de la iglesia también.
